Purchased As New
This is an outstanding car for the money. Be careful not to judge the Sebring (and especially the convertible) by the least expensive models. The Limited is not even the same car (handling, comfort, finish, styling) as the others. The 3.5L 6-speed is a very smooth and responsive drivetrain that offers an incredible note when the top is down. The suspension (with Electronic Stability Control) is complaint and smooth, but not too soft. This car feels nimble and small in town and large and stable on the highway; a nice compromise!
I tested and drove everything before buying, and nothing else came close. The VW Eos is small and cramped, the Mustang is powerful but tiny and jolting, the Toyota Solara is dated and noisy, and the Pontiac G6 shakes and rattles like it was put together in a high school shop class (the G6 is junk). The best comparison to the Limited is the Volvo C70 Hardtop, which is a very nice car but MUCH more expensive to purchase and maintain.
In it's nicest (and admittedly most expensive) trim, the Sebring Convertible (Limited Hardtop) is beautifully designed. The interior is comfortable, functional, and consistent, and the exterior has a classy, upscale appearance. The car includes a number of thoughtful features, including an amazing MYGIG A/V Nav system with bluetooth phone connect, heated power leather seats, a tilting and telescoping steering column, a rear windscreen, a heated and cooled cupholder remote start, and more. I was disappointed with the cheap sunvisors, but that's a small complaint.
The Pininfarina-designed hardtop is an outstanding piece of engineering. The top raises and lowers smoothly in less than 1/2 minute (I've dropped it at traffic lights on numerous occasions) with the push of a button or the press of a keyfob. I have raised and lowered mine so many times I can't count them, and it has never even hiccuped. When the top is up, the car is quieter than most sedans. When the top is down, it is joy (and there is still enough trunk space left for a golf bag).
This car is not for everyone, I suppose. If you are looking for a sports-car, look somewhere else. If you want a simple sedan, get a Chevy Malibu or Toyota Camry. If you want to spend your money on pure luxury, go for a Mercedes of BMW. If you want a cutesy "chick-vertible," get the little Eos or settle for less space and get a Miata (great little car). The Sebring Convertible has some "flaws" that I would call great compromises. If you are looking for a very nice, reasonably priced hardtop convertible that looks great, drives well, is very comfortable, and can carry four and their luggage reasonably, this is your car. After owning it for one year and driving it 50k miles, I recommend it highly, and I wish someone had written this review for me before I looked elsewhere!
