overall the car is of good value. It performs well, looks good and has good cargo space. Although, I had to replace the tie rods at only 45k miles!

The center arm consul moves, is noisy, bushings fell out car service man said he didn't know Calibers had them well guess what they do, he told me it was safe to drive, next day on 15 freeway gas pedal was on the medal-God must have been looking out for me-no wreck. I just don't feel safe in this car anymore. Gas mileage is poor-lease is up in May--going to get something else,...read morehide

I highly recommend this car. It has a lot of power and speed at a great price. The sound system is awesome. Great vehicle for a cheap price. Insurance company rates it as a compact wagon and they don't charge much more than any other car out there.

Great utility, fairly comfortable and nice to drive. We also have a Ponitac Vibe, the Dodge Caliber is much better riding, especially on rough roads, probably because of the larger and higher profile tires.
I like the "wagon" like back, good for hauling stuff. Mine has the satellite radio, and several neat features. We drove it from Oklahoma to Florida and back, and got 31 to 33 mpg Hwy. Around town, I usually get 25 or better. This one has 8,000 miles now.
I'm not really wild about the styling, especially from the rear, but she loves it and thinks it is "cool". My only real complaint is the windshield wiper. My wife is short, and she complains that the lower part of the windshield driver's side doesn't get wiped. Not a big deal, and I think I can fix it with a longer blade on that side.
Oh, one other thing I might change if Chrysler would ask my opinion, it is geared pretty high....3000 rpm at 70 mph. With lower revs, I bet I could get 36 or 38 mpg. I wonder what the final ratio is on the 6-speed?
Over all, great ride for the money!...read morehide

Great car. Looks great, feels great, just all around wicked awesome sport hatchback. Only con is the roof rack. It looks out of place with it on. Don't get it unless you always use them/ need them. I'm getting mine taken off.

The noise level makes a long trip tiresome. Don't have enough [****]ions to adjust drver's seat. Otherwise, a good looking economic car.

This machine has gotten a bad rap from the automotive reviewers. They are comparing it to other sporty sub-compact/hatchback cars regarding performance and mileage, when it is really closer to a mini SUV, and would compare vary well with these rides.
Sitting inside, the headroom and line of sight is higher than most other "little cars". The long rake of the windshield, large roof pillars and long low windows gives one the feel of sitting in an aircraft cockpit. These long, low windows and beefy pillars also restrict rear visibility. Backing up takes a bit of care; but I go forward most of the time, and this is a joy with this car.
Performance wise... The CVT automatic transmission takes some getting used to. It doesn't jump off the line like a dragster, or downshift into a "passing gear" when you tromp the throttle while rolling like a traditional multi-gear automatic; but the surge of power that builds as the tranny works its magic gives the impression more like a rocket... A smooth/building (and powerful!) THRUST, rather than a jarring, jolting lurch of power. If you want to hear the engine scream, and get a lurching jolt of acceleration, don't get the CVT. You'll never smoke the tires with a CVT tranny, but it does accelerate dramatically when asked to!
The engine has a lovely "throaty roar" to it when pushed to perform... Like no other economy car I've ever heard.
"Smooth, sleek and powerful" are the best words to describe the feel of driving this car. I love it!
For the money... I'll ride the Caliber, in style, out to a fine restaurant, which I can afford since I've bought this car.
