I love the Ford Escape design and I generally like Ford. We own two - the newer F150 and an older Escort. We want to buy the great looking Escape but just can't do it yet. Why won't Ford put in a small diesel engine such as the 2.0L TDI used in the VW 2009 Sportwagon, It has only 140 HP but a wopping 236 ft-lbs of torgue. That's more than the Escape with the V6 and both the Ford and VW are in the range of 3250 lbs curb wt.
I expect such an engine put in the Escape could boost its mileage up to 40 mpg. Let's all write to Ford -- they are doing great but could be even better!!
