It is a great relief that there is still one american car company cranking out good cars. The Escape was a great fit for me and my family of three, I bought it earlier this year when Ford was offering the employee discounts. I give this car high marks on it's styling and comfort. I get 22+ average MPGs in mostly suburbia driving, while still providing plenty of power to satisfy my macho husbands need for power. At this point it has gone to the dealer once for an improperly installed air conditioning hose- no air conditioning-it took a couple of days to get the part from the factory. The interior is hansome and the SYNC feature is nice, I would really recommend this car....read morehide

Overall my SUV is excellent. I never thought I made the right decision comparing it to other mini SUV's. This one has all the power and size I needed for my small family. Its got the best smooth ride even when I'm running it on the interstate, Im still enjoying the comfort coupled with nice music inside the vehicle. And the SYNC was the best ever addition I've always utilized. Hands free operation with voice activated features is standard! Ford shall soon overcome the other competitors - guaranteed...read morehide

They replaced the Altinator 4 times...then the last time replaced the entire electrical wiring and that seems to have done the trick. Unfortunately it has left me stranded so many times in the first year that I am afraid to take it out of town. I know others that have this model and have not had the same issues. Personally, I think the dealership's service center needs to review the qualifications of their mechanics. This should have been fixed the first time!!...read morehide

The Escape is everything that I had anticipated. I find that the milage is higher than advertised. 25-27 city and 28-31 highway. The four cylinder engine is quiet and has plenty of snap for its size. It is not as fast as my Mustang convertible but it also doesn't stop at gas stations as much. Foreign car owners are missing the boat by assuming that a Ford is not as good or better than what they drive. I would buy another one today. I only wish I could justify having two....read morehide

This is the best new car I've ever bought. Right off the lot it has worked without any glitches. The Sync/Nav system works great as does the connectivity with my cell phone. The ride is smooth over the roughest roads. I also like the auto-headlight feature. Overall, I truly can't say enough about this America made vehicle....read morehide

We researched this vehicle extensively. Started with an XLT with lots of options and chose a Limited instead. This car is a great value. We were able to take advantage of the financing specials as well. Options we chose were: Limited Luxury Package-duel temp zones, heated seats, heated mirrors. Cargo Package-hidden wet trunk, cross bars atop, cargo cover. Step Bars. Moon & Tune-sun roof, awesome stereo with 6 cd in dash. Things that were standard that are cool: Info display-miles to empty, MPG, current fuel consumption. Steering wheel controls for stereo, SYNC system. (this is cool voice activation, works with an I-POD, Blue tooth) Leather seats are comfortable and combined with the mood lighting, Awesome. As for the fuel econemy of the V6, with combined city/hwy driving we are at 22.5 MPG. No need for the 4WD. We traded an 06 Escape with FWD and never had a problem with snow or back country trails....read morehide

My Escape XLS has turned out to be a great choice. We wanted something big enough to carry camping equipment, stroller, etc., big enough to carry 4 adults and a child if needed, yet small enough to offer a good ride and good fuel economy.
We wanted to buy an American car this time (after two Japanese cars - not that there is anything wrong with those) with the economic situation and all, so we also looked at the Jeep Patriot.
While the Patriot could be had with more options (Premium sound, tinted glass, sunroof, leather wrapped steering wheel, etc.), the Escape ultimately worked for our family the best. The cargo area in the Escape is taller, allowing our stroller to fit upright, giving us more room for other items. The rear seat is also a little wider, so we were able to put our car seat in the middle and still have room if needed for two more passengers. I know this is trivial, but the rear "hump" is much smaller in the Escape and the rear cupholders were placed up high on the center console rather than at foot level. Hey, it's all about the little things.
Engine: 2.5L 4 cylinder packs plenty of power for daily driving and because it's a 4 cylinder, it is able to achieve good gas mileage.
Transmission: The 6 speed automatic really caught my eye because I am big into gas mileage. I knew jumping from a compact car to a small-suv was going to take the mileage down, so this transmission, coupled with the 2.5L engine, eased my mind a little bit. Rated at 20mpg in the city and 28mpg on the highway didn't seem too bad given the size and boxy characteristics of an SUV.
Cargo: Plenty of cargo room for all of our needs. Like I said, we have a full size stroller and even though it folds up, it still takes up a lot of room, so we wanted something that had a taller cargo area to accomodate that. The center console is pretty large for its class. I'm going to go out on a limb here and just say it is enormous and I doubt any SUV in this class can match it. I could be wrong, but nonetheless, it's BIG. Oh, and right in front of the shifter there is an area perfect for stowing your cell phone and iPod (or whatever else you would want there) that is rubber lined so nothing slides around. Cup holders are plenty big for most anything and are conveniently located.
Electronics: Okay, so there are a lot of buttons, but they really are pretty easy to use. It took me all of five minutes to understand them all and put them to memory. Don't let the amount of buttons turn you away. I like the AUX input, but even more than that, I LOVE SYNC. With Sync you get hands free operation of your cell phone and your stereo. It also comes with steering wheel mounted controls which is very convenient.
Standard Equipment: Power mirrors, locks, stability control, traction control, auto dimming mirror, cruise control, EasyFuel capless gas system (surprisingly, this is a nice addition. It's a little weird the first couple of times you fill up, though), A/C. This is a nice set of standard options especially if you are like me and go for the base model. The Patriot, on the other hand, was at the opposite end of the spectrum.
All in all, I believe I made a great choice with the Escape. I've put about 2900 miles on it since I bought it almost a month ago and the mileage gets better each fill up. I started out with an average of about 26 and now my average is 28.4 miles per gallon.
The only thing I would gripe about is the lack of lumbar support. My last car didn't have any either, but on a long trip it could become an issue. The styling is a little boxy compared to the competition which has a little bit more aggressive and modern styling. However, as stated before, this helped give a little more room for the cargo area.
A great buy! Quality seems to be very high on this which is more than I can say for a lot of other cars out there. I have bought into the Japanese hype with my last two vehicles, but this has changed my mind on American cars!...read morehide

This SUV is as easy to park forward and backward as my 1998 Neon. It drives like a small car but with way more space. I have only had this suv for a month and a half. The sync and the sirius radio are cool too. I highly recommend this car to everyone. I think Ford has finally done it. They stepped up to the plate and hit a homerun with this SUV....read morehide
