Drove my son's Focus to the cabin. Comfortable for a compact. Rather similar to our Pontiac Vibe in fuel economy and comfort. GEts in low 30s mpg for combined city and highway travel. He reports no maintenance difficulty.

I purchased my Focus in February of 08. Mine is a standard five speed w/NO frills. But I love the way it handles, and the gas mileage is great (average 36 mpg highway). There are only two things that I don't like about it: since I don't have electric windows, rolling down the windows is awkward; I actually have to be fully stopped to accomplish this. I would have given the Focus a perfect score which I feel it deserves in its price class except for the ommission of the spare tire. My Focus came equiped with a tire inflator that might be fine for a puncture but I suffered a side wall blow out late at night on a rural road. I had to abandon the car and it was later damaged when towed. Even with a simple puncture the inflator is hard to understand how to operate....read morehide

I don't like the drive to 1 selection only on my car. It is very dangerous in the mountain especially on ice.To hold second gear you have to put it in the 1 selection and if it goes below 25 it automatically drops to first sending you sideways in a hurry.Ford has done this funky and dangerous pattern since the early 80's on various vehicles.I can't beleive no one has sued them over it.I couldn't say anything else bad about this car.It beats our fuel economy expectations by far and lots of power in the hills. Work on the shifter pattern and you have agreat safe car....read morehide

Poor value. A lot of things broke within the first 5 months of ownership. Finally, the brakes squeaked a lot, including when the car was parked and the handbrakes was used.
