I recently purchased an '09 Fusion 4-cylinder SEL. It's white with a tan interior, so it looks classy in my view. The seats are comfortable, and the ride is smooth and quiet. My commute to work requires riding over about 5 different road surfaces, and the Fusion is quiet, smooth, and sure footed over all of them. My driving is 90% HWY, but I was pleasantly surprised to get 31.7 mpg. The car turns slightly less than 2500 rpm at 70mph. In addition to having adequate storage space in the console area, there is a place for one's glasses by the interior lights, and there is a space for CDs in the dash area. The leather seats (or more likely leather-like) are nice looking, but it's too early to tell how they'll hold up. The interior is spacious, and little touches like ambient lighting create intrigue.
The car could be more powerful, but I did buy the 4 cylinder. Unless, I'm going up a big hill from a complete stop, the power is adequate.
The main negative is with the dealership. I wasn't planning on buying now, but they took $7000 off MSRP on '09s. That's great, but Ford Credit was wanting 9% interest. I told them I could get 3.5% at my wife's credit union, so they gave me 3.5%. They also try to stick you with an expensive extended warranty that's tied to better interest rates. Thus, I recommend seeing if your bank is willing to give you a loan at a good rate. It took 3 hrs. and 50 min. to finalize the deal, even though there was little hagglin' over the price--$19,600 before taxes and extended warranty. Also, they pressure you to say you're completely satisfied with the process. I am happy with the car, however....read morehide

This is my first new car and first American car, although it is made in Mexico, it's still from an American company. I've had it for about three weeks, so no long trips yet. I was going to wait until the new 2010s came out, but I didn't want to spend the extra money and have always liked the looks of this model. I considered the Accord, but it was more money for less features and I personally don't care for the looks. I got the 4 cylinder and it has plenty of power even with the A/C on. People comment that the 4 cylinder is loud. It is very quiet at highway speed and I don't mind hearing the engine, when I step on the gas. This 4 cylinder doesn't sound strained, when pushed like my wife's Saturn. This engine is used in Mazdas too. I am averaging 31 MPG in mixed driving. On the highway the computer says about 33-35 MPG. I got rid of my Honda Civic which averaged 35MPG, so I didn't have to give up much milage and got a whole lot more car. Mine has the sunroof and spolier and they really make a great looking car even sharper. The only fit and finish problem I've noticed is way under the glove box near the passenger footwell in the front. It looks unfinished and the plastic was slightly rough to the touch. I compared my car with a Fusion on the showroom floor and it was the same, so I assume they are all like that, which is disappointing. SYNC is cool and works well. I had to reword some of my cell phone contacts because some of them were too similar. After some pracitce it works very well and really is nice and safer not to have to have the phone in your ear on the highway. I haven't tried a MP3 player yet, but I'm sure it will work just as well. About all of the ambiant lighting color are distracting at night, except for red. It's just something to make passengers ooh and ahh, but certainly it is an uncommon feature. I cannot comment on the reliability yet, but it is rated on par with the Accord and Camry in Consumers Report and that's pretty high praise. I drive 60 miles a day round trip to work and home and look forward to my time in my Fusion. It rides so sporty and solidly. I'm used to gritting my teeth going over bumps in my Civic, no more with this car! The 5-speed auto shifts smoothly and downshifts when needed. I've gotten many compliments on my car and look forward to driving it for years to come. I have not problem recommending this car!...read morehide

An excellent car from an American automaker. Great sporty ride, excellent styling, and superior technology. Needs a fuel economy boost as well as a performance upgrade on the I-4 engine.

I bought this car after driving a 04 Taurus for five years; this car is really nice to handle; it's sleek looking and fashionable. The only thing is I probably should have purchased the 6cl because I have the 4cl and it can be a little bit loud. I would most certainly by another if I could afford it, but overall this is a good car for the money and style....read morehide

I traded my Hyundai Accent for a Fusion. I thought if I could get 30 mpg from the Fusion it would be great. I find that on a level road at 63 mph the Fusion gets 36 -37 mpg. So far there is nothing I dislike about the car and my hearing aids do not pick up road noise like they did in the Accent

Almost got the V6; was told I should drive I-4 before I spend extra. Result: the 4 is plenty and the gas mileage is unreal. Set the cruise control on 64 mph and get 36.7 MPG. In town I never get less than 25 MPG. I heard complaints about position of turn signal lever; not so. It is positioned perfectly for your hands at 10 and 2 o'clock on wheel. As far as trunk release; it's on the key! Why buy foreign? FORD has it RIGHT with the fusion. Also; for those of you in a hurry--you can cruise at 75 to 80 and still get 31 to 33 MPG. Heated leather seats...Fantastic!...read morehide

Great car. This car I think says Ford is back!Good mileage and good handling. With the employee pricing and the rebates ,I think I STOLE this car. Great great value that beats the competition.Like I said Ford is back and a hybrid is coming in March that will get 41MPG.

What a great car. This vehicle is quiet and the ride is very smooth. Fit and finish are very good. The price was outstanding. I understand that the quality ratings on this car are second to none (consumer quide and JD Power). I also understand that this is one of the safest cars (Insurance instutue for highway safety). The value of this vehicle is great -- I have received many compliments from my neighbors on the styling as well. My family is very happy with this vehicle!...read morehide
