This is my 2nd Ranger that I've owned. My last one was a '93.
I am glad to own a Range now that I have a house.. Great for what I need to haul. (yard waste) And able to haul stuff with out worries.
All the other guys small truck to me are no longer a small truck, they seem to grown a bit, and it would not fit in my tuck under garage with out isues.
my ranger is a XL package 2.3L, 5-speed. Will own one again....read morehide

A real compact truck that remembers it's place in its segment. Competitors have grown too large to be called compacts. Compared to the Chevy Colorado, the only other "compact" compact truck, the Ranger is a higher quality vehicle. What makes it bad for the Chevy is that it is a much newer vehicle. The Ranger isn't fun to drive, because it's not meant for that. The automotive "experts" that write for magazines need to drive the everyman's type of automobiles more often. I've had a few small quality problems, mainly the turn signal stalk split at the mold seam at about 12,000 miles. The ride is stiff and the rear axle will step out over irregular bumps, meant for work not play. Bottom line, if you want a small truck that does everything it's supposed to do without drama, look at the Ranger....read morehide

Paint Job Still looks great and I get to 90mph quickly wit this Zippy 16valve 4cylinder. Handles very good in the City and on the Road and is easy to Park. the Interior easy nice and comfortable and I actually enjoy driving this vehicle. Great Engine and with good mileage and goes over mountains without strain and The Engine Never overheats. Ford Ranger is a Darn Good Reliable Truck and will last a long time too. Only problem I've had is front disc brake warpage and had to have Discs replaced at 75,000 miles and a Thermostat. Changed Spark Plugs 77,000 miles. I will Buy Another Ford Ranger over the Competition....read morehide

I don't know who wrote that it's unsafe. In the real world it proved more than safe to me. I got rear ended 3 or 4 times over the course of the 12 years I had mine (275K + miles) , just scraped off the paint on the rear bumper. I took it overseas and a horse ran into me at night (scared off by the air horn of a semi truck coming in the other direction). I had to straighten the bumper, hood and replace lights, but nothing happened to the frame or me. The poor horse passed to a better life. Yes, after that many years and miles, A/C, brakes, had to be replaced and auto transmission rebuilt, as well as crankshaft change. The roads it traveled were beyond anything it was designed to. The cost was very reasonable for the needed repairs, and parts easy to order from the US. It was powerful and reasonably economical, handled well, braked nicely (tail never lost control), got into muddy roads at door level, carried in excess of its rated weight a couple times. It outlasted my best expectations. I was sad to part with it when I came back to the US....read morehide

Am I hooked on Fords? No however I would put these rangers up against anything on the road.If you hit deep snow or mud, turn the 4 wheel drive engagement button, give it a few seconds and away you go-----you know through the White and Drifted Snow

I got my 2001 truck back in August of 2008. I had a Toyota Tacoma, but had to turn it in due to frame rust. So far, I've been very happy with my truck. It's a Mazda B3000, which is the same truck as the Ford Ranger. It has a much more comfortable ride than my Tacoma. In my Tacoma, I felt every little bump, but not in this truck! I have the 3.0 V6 and it's plenty fast. The only complaints I have with this truck are that it's hard to park in tight spots and the oil pressure gauge tends to stick when it's cold. It's fine once the truck warms up, so I don't really worry about it. I honestly think I'll probably get over 300,000 miles out of this truck. I've heard the Vulcan V6 engines in these are bullet-proof as long as you change the oil. Ford got this one right!...read morehide
