I have an '06 S2K. This is an awesome car for performance, handling, value and reliability.
I came off a BMW motorcycle to drive this car, and I easily prefer the car over my motorcycle anyday. There are plenty of comparisons of this car to being a 4-wheeled motorcycle for handling and acceleration.
Being a Honda, and I've owned two other Honda's, meant to me that it wouldn't be spending a lot of time in the garage. All my Honda's have been super reliable. The car turns a lot of heads since most people don't even know or recognize that Honda makes a two seater convertible.
The S2000 holds it's retail value. It costs more than the miata, but is more of a sportscar than the miata. And the miata's are a dime a dozen. The other competitor is usually the BMW Z3/Z4, which tends to cost a little more. What killed them for me was my owning a 325es and a 328is previously, and the maintenance costs were astronomical, unless you like paying $500 for a brake job at the dealer or a $1000 for a drive shaft because they can't just sell the stabilizer bearing.
The car is sporty and the cockpit is minimal, harkening back to Honda's racing origins. Push start ignition, digital dash, and the stereo is hidden behind a flip down door. Power windows, not locks. Power top that is up or down in about 6 seconds. Seats are firm and supportive. But if you're wearing size 40 or larger waistbands, you might find it a little confining. Don't look for GPS or DVD or even a decent sized cup holder, that wasn't the intent of this car.
The handling is crisp and responsive, as is the engine. A consequence of this and the 18" tires is a firm ride, that people coming out of sedans or luxury SUVs might find too harsh. But it is what is because it needs to be to give you the performance...assuming this is why you buy the car. If you're looking for sedate, touring around with the top down performance, get the miata.
I guess the last thing to mention that (again) in keeping with intent of this car to be a performance oriented car, suitable for track days and such, there is NO automatic transmission available. But isn't a standard half the fun?
