I just purchased a brand new 2009 G37 Coupe Journey with the Sports Package, Navigation Package and Premium Package and I have to say it is a blast to drive.
I've heard so much about the VQ-series engine and everything they say about it is right. It is smooth, powerful and sounds incredible. The 320+hp is more than enough to get this car moving fast.
I can't say enough about the new 7-speed transmission. It is so smooth that aside from the first-second shift, it is almost impossible to tell when it's shifting. When you press the accelerator hard at freeway speeds (around 70-75mph in California), it shifts down fast and just throws the car forward.
I've added the Sports Package with the 19" wheels and tires and the upgraded brakes and they are unbelievable. They just grip hard and the turn in fast. The upgraded suspension keeps the car flat in tight turns. Of course the package also makes the ride a little harsher than the standard suspension and there is a little more tire noise, but the trade off (including the upgraded sports seat with 12-way power adjustments including a thigh support) makes it worthwhile. The Magnesium Paddle Shifters are really cute, but not really a necessity in daily driving.
The Navigation Package and the Premium Package adds a lot of gadgets that are simply overwhelming at the beginning. This includes the Hard Drive based Navigation, Bluetooth, 11-speaker Bose system, Moonroof, Rear looking camera and a host of other gadgets. You know you have way too many gadgets when the owner's manual pack is too large for the glove box and the carry case for the pack has velcro at the bottom to keep it held down in the trunk.
The two things I really don't like about the car is the storage space inside. The glove box can barely hold 6 CD's and the center console can't hold any. iPod interface is standard and that's about all that fits in the center console. The other is the Bose system. It sounds rather muddy and the bass response is pretty weak. Yes it gets loud, but not really what I would consider a premium stereo sound.
Overall, this is an incredible car for the value. Compare it with the BMW 3-series, the only real direct competition in the market and the value shines through. I am incredibly happy with my new baby.
