this is not the real selec trac anymore. it does not have the part time 4wd to go with the full time 4wd. much better traction with it. without this feature it does not work as well. they had it in the 2008 but took it away in 2009. you were able to go from full time to part time and low 4wd but no more. i hope they put it back. no more grab handles in the front. its a 4 wheeler, it needs them. to much plastic. nothing is soft to the touch. needs more power ,PLEASE. LOW GAS MILEAGE. full size spare tire should not be an option. spare tire is underneath. can get very messy getting it. lift gate is very heavy. i test drove this liberty several times. i dont like it as well as my 2004. my liberty has style to it. it is not so square looking. it is a nice jeep but to many changes were made that i dont like. i would consider buying one again but they would have to put the selec trac back to the way it was when you could go from full time to part time and then low 4wd when needed. dont forget the grab handles. thankyou....read morehide

I love my Jeep. Love it. I can haul big objects, I can fit myself, 4 passengers and two giant dogs and go on a road trip in comfort!
I haven't been into the mechanic yet, but I've only put 4,000 miles on it so far, so it will go in for it's 6,000 miles maintenance soon.
I haven't done any off-roading yet, but with a jeep as beautiful as the one I have, I'm not sure I want to chance breaking anything so I might just keep it on the regular and dirt roads. =)
Handles incredibly for an SUV, wouldn't even be able to tell it has a high tip percentage. I have taken corners pretty fast to get where I was going and it didn't even feel maxed out.
Overall, great vehicle! I recommend to anyone who needs a great SUV....read morehide

I drove a 2006 Liberty for three years before I traded it in for a Jeep Patriot (mostly because I missed the Cherokees and the Patriots had that "Cherokee" look). The main problem we had were with the power windows. Apparently, Chrysler's windows were too heavy for the design of the regulators and, as a result, the power windows kept going out, eventually getting to a point where the glass would simply fall down into the door frame. Chrysler, to their credit, did fix it under warranty at 44000 miles, but they were not going to issue a recall because they did not consider it a safety hazard, even though there were many other complaints about the windows in the Liberty (apparently a recall would have made Chrysler engineers redesign the whole thing, and they weren't gonna do that). Other than the window issue, I loved my Liberty. Hopefully Chrysler has fixed the situation with the newer Liberty. Overall, it's a good vehicle, good power, tight turn radius for parking in small spaces, and hey, it's a Jeep!...read morehide

On long trips -- seats become uncomfortable. could be better on fuel economy, over not a bad SUV

Second Jeep product we've owned, because of the reliability of the first Jeep we returned to chrysler for another car. Looks sharp, sits high can see road well. Roomy emough for 4 people to sit comfortably. Large carrying space in the back

My company purchased a Jeep Liberty as a "field" vehcle for our branch office that is for driving two-track roads and over generally rough terrain in Wyoming. From the first day it has been a dissapointment. The clearance is astoundingly low, and I have driven rougher terrain in a Subaru with less scraping of the undercarrage. Second, with the overall cheapness of the body, we have already had plastic molding snap away from the fender. The molding is attached to the lowest part of the bumper and serves no functional purpose but scrapes against 8" high sagebrush and is now broken. Thirdly, when driving on the highway, the Liberty is squirrelly. The short wheel base makes driving it a constantly gripping experience. This is especially true in icy conditions. One must constantly correct the steering as any bump seems to throw the vehicle off course. Fourth, the cab as in many jeeps is tight. But in the Liberty it is more akin to driving an old VW bus where your face is mere inches from the windshield. As a work vehicle, this is the worst choice my company could have made for us, and we have started taking an employees Nissan Pathfinder which performs much better, has better clearance and is more sturdily built....read morehide

Have the Liberty Sport 4x4 for a week now 450 miles and no problems. When buying this vehicle you have to remember you bought a jeep not a Lexus. Has decent pickup. Gas mileage could be better but it is what it is. Handles great for a SUV and goes up hills better than my 06 Xterra. I am very happy. Gotta love Lifetime power train warranty. My 06 Xterra had 94,000 miles on it and the transmission started acting up, If it was the 09 Liberty they would have fixed it at no cost to me. Good vehicle Jeep, Bravo!!...read morehide

OK let me start by saying that I bought this vehicle because it is a weekend vehicle and I loved the cherokee sport I had 10 years ago. So far the liberty lives up to my expectations in most ways. It has that jeep purr and ride. it has ample power and best of all I like the ergonomics from the drivers POV. The center console is perfect and has lots of places to put things, the radio is postioned well, it is a joy to drive. I also like how it sits higher than most of the new SUVs. Remember this is a truck. if you want the ride and feel of a lexus...then buy a sedan. My only complaint is that the SAT radio gets breaks in reception..probably not jeeps fault but it is what it is. Also, it likes to drink gas so far..but that was expected. Like I say I don't commute in this vehicle. It is very comfy and quiet on the highway too! Under the hood it is very simple to locate things and you can actually check your oil. So many new cars are completely unfriendly when you pop the hood.
So get out there and support your country...buy a JEEP!...read morehide

I've received quite a few favorable comments on the look of the new Liberty. It rides like a Jeep which was expected and actually that's what I was looking for. However, I feel that the engine is either underpowered at only 210 HP or the transmission needs different gearing to make straight line acceleration better. Has anyone had any issues with their transmission shifting from second to third? I sometimes get a jarring shift like when I was just learning how to drive a manual trans. Anyway, good styling and overall functionality just wish for a few more horses under the hood and hopefully a problem free transmission. It would also be nice to have automatic lights and a few other convenience features as standard on a Sport model....read morehide
