We've owned ours for about a year. We've driven it from Pennsylvania to New England twice and once to upper NY state, each time fully loaded with gear. I got it because I wanted a decent-handling SUV. It has fully met my expectations. I highly recommend the premium sound package. This car pulls out from any situation and gets up to speed with no hesitation. It never spins the tires on gravel or wet surfaces. I don't know if this is due to the AWD or traction control. The steering is light and precise....read morehide

This crossover is great to ride, has decent power, handles better than most cars I've owned and is very comfortable. The ride is quite inside and there is plenty of room for a vehicle in this category. There are some neat features as well. I love the intelligent key system. In addition to never having to pull the key out of my pocket, as soon as I unlock the door, the seat automatically sets itself to my memory position.
While I am happy with my purchase, there are some flaws to the crossover. Most disappointing is the navigation system. I still have to use an external GPS devise or a map. I can drive from a point on the interstate to another point on the same interstate and the navi system will take me 5 miles off of the freeway to some obscure road, then back to the freeway. If I drive past the exit, it will want me to make a u-turn back to the exit...even if I'm 5 miles from the exit and 1 mile from my destination. And no, I did not set my preference to avoid the freeway. You're better off with a Mapsco than this waste of space. If the car you're looking at has the navigation system, make sure they throw in a Garmin or TomTom for free.
Also, when getting in the car, the top of the door frame is fairly low. My wife, one of my children and I have all bumped our heads getting into the vehicle. The auxiliary input for connecting your MP3 player is ill placed in the center console. And good luck finding an MP3 player that works. I have three different MP3 players and none of them work in the auxiliary jack. At least the 6 CD disc player plays MP3's.
Aside from the flaws mentioned above, the crossover definitely has zoom zoom. It handles curves like a sports car. The larger center console give the car a nice feel and surprisingly does not take much from the seat width. The steering wheel controls are nicely placed and easy to handle. I like that the tri-climate control is a standard feature.
If you're looking for a sporty crossover and don't mind the lower gas mileage (average is 18 MPG), I recommend that you drive this one before making your final decision....read morehide

If you live in a warm climate, then by all means buy this car. If you drive in the snow and ice, forget it. The Mazda engineers have created a traction control nightmare. The traction control engages too quickly and cripples the vehicle on inclines. You can turn it off, but it automatically re-engages @ 9MPH. Why? I have no clue. When we have to out in the snow, we take our front wheel drive Lexus ES 350, it's 10 times as good in the snow!...read morehide

As much as we did our research, thought we were purchasing a good car. Dealing with the dealer was CRAZY (very frustating). Thirday days after the purchase, car died -- to find our the engine needs replacing (YEAH!!!). Not to mention, the dealer doesn't think I should be concerned, and that it's my opinion how I feel....read morehide

The perfectly-sized CX-9 is an award-winning crossover 4WD that drives like a sporty car and goes off-road like a sporty car too.
Mazda CX9 is a real excellent car.

Just bought and so far, am VERY impressed with my 2009 CX-9. It replaced my 3 year old Volvo XC-90. Feels solid, drives great, looks great and I actually prefer it over the Volvo. Plenty of room inside to buy just about anything with the seats down. Rear seat heat and a/c is actually effective. Keyless everything is great. For the price, it can't be beat. I looked at much more expensive vehicles including Audi, Mercedes and Lexus and aside for the interior wood trim, softer leather and a little extra glitz in these high end crossovers, the Mazda is a winner and represents incredible value. It really has everything you'd ever want. I've owned many SUV's and a few crossovers and this one is a winner! I highly recommend it....but spend the few extra bucks and get the high-end touring model....its worth the extra $5,000....read morehide

I lease vehicles every 36 months. This crossover is right up there with European versions at twice the price. Ford owns Mazda and Volvo, and I see the best of all three automakers in this vehicle. I am considering purchasing my next one, and keeping it for the long haul.
