Very practical car (van) to have. I got 2009 GT & the price is great. Just fun to drive & lots of space inside, doors slide very easily.
On the bad side the road noise is annoying, gas milage is about 22 MPG "highway". The 4 cylinder engine has trouble climbing hills. The black interior get dirty very easily. Accessories are expensive (roof rack about $ 500 & make the car looks ugly- I insist it is a car).
The rear ventilation system is just air, not cold or hot (weired)....read morehide

Would like to see another interior color in lieu of black. Low profile tires look sporty, however, one feels every little bump in the road. Tires are expensive and wear out too fast. Need to replace oil filter with a metal can type. Present one is too expensive. AC is marginal, and there is a need for and outlet for the back seat. Carpeting is chinzey. Ride and handling is very good....read morehide

I have had this car for over 2 years and I would like it more if it had power doors and real comfort...I would have paid alittle more for a little more comfort and power doors...I still like that they side, my kids are too young to be trusted opening car doors. I will be going back to a comfortable, power doors van after my lease!
IT IS WORTH WHAT I PAID THOUGH!!!...read morehide

I can't say enough good things about my Mazda5. I did not want a full-size mini van and when I saw the Mazda5, I loved its size and "quirkiness." I purchased mine new in early 2007 and have driven it for nearly 31 months. I usually get tired of vehicles after about two years, but I still LOVE my Mazda5. My brother even bought one after he saw mine and he loves his too.
I was aware when I purchased the vehicle that the third-row seating is not roomy enough for adults and with the third-row seating up, you need a roof rack with a cargo box/bag to hold anything for a trip. But I wouldn't say that this is a "con" since the Mazda5 is not meant to be a full-size mini-van. The Mazda5 has plenty of room for my family of four and cargo in the back with third-row seating down. My kids love all of the hidden storage spaces (under the back seats) and in between the back seats.
The only other things I would change in the design if possible is to make the body ground clearance higher and to add power rear doors....read morehide

A lot of features for the money. We love the stereo with CD changer, tons of cup holders (8 when the optional console between the middle row seats is flipped out), and versatility to seat 6 or (not and) haul lumber home from Home Depot. It really is fun to drive and you don't look like all the other parents with kids who drive indistinguishable minivans. I actually feel cool driving it. We purchased our '06 new in July 05 (immediately after it became available in the US). We did not want a traditional minivan (too clunky and ugly) and traded in an SUV for it. We needed space for two kids (car seats, stroller, etc.) and wanted the ability to take a friend or two along. Yet we did not want to die of boredom driving it and fuel economy was important to us. We regularly get 27-28 mpg in mixed driving. We've taken the car on long road trips and have had plenty of space for suitcases, etc. The second row seats have plenty of space for adults. My older parents have knee problems and have remarked at how comfortable the second row space is (both size and accessibility). The third row is perfectly fine for kids anytime and for adults for short drives. It is nice to have the capacity to seat 6 when needed but if you regularly need to haul 6 people around, this is probably not for you as there is very limited cargo room behind the third row of seats. In the 49 months we've had this car, we did not need to have any warranty service at all. No reliability issues. We've only had oil changes/ regular maintenance done. Others have commented on it eating tires--I agree. We are on the third set of tires already. Rotating them every oil change is key but the low profile, speed rated tires won't hold up as well as other types of tires. It is a small price to pay when the rest of the vehicle is so reliable. We have cloth seats which are okay (leather was not an option in the 06 model although they are in the new ones). We purchased this vehicle during the summer of '05, the first time that dealers were trying desperately to clear their lots with employee pricing gimmicks, etc. We looked at all the 05 models on the market and none met our needs. When I read about the Mazda5 on their website, it exactly met out needs and looked futuristic. We decided to wait until it was available at the end of July to purchase it. When I see other vehicles we considered on the road, they look so OLD and outdated. I don't feel at all like I am driving a 4 year old vehicle. It handling is as stiff and responsive as the day we drove it off the lot. While I am extremely happy with this vehicle and plan to keep it for a long time, if it were wrecked tomorrow, I'd go out and buy a new one....read morehide

I have owned my 2006 Mazda5 since new. After almost 95,000 miles, I must say that I am still amazed at the utility, versatility, style, quality and comfort of this amazing vehicle.
Since I purchased my Mazda5, I have had only one unscheduled service trip. The only complaint I have is that the car tends to go through tires quickly and the replacement sport tires are rather costly.
What do I like most?
*Manual transmission
*Comfort and space
*Utility; versatility
*Build quality
*Handling and ride
*Low ownership cost
*Design details
*Safety
I was involved in a collision in which I was rear-ended by a late model Hyundai. The Hyundai's airbags deployed and the car was a total loss. My Mazda5 had only $430 in damage to the rear bumper and undercarriage........the structure of this vehicle is solid as a rock.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this vehicle to anyone. I plan on purchasing another one when it comes time for me to purchase a new car in about a year.
I couldn't possibly be happier with a vehicle......I actually feel intelligent just driving it....read morehide

Bought this car three months ago and love it more and more everyday. Looked at this mini over a year ago but my husband didn't like it and talked me into a Toyota Seinna. He kept dragging his feet so I went and purchased the 5 for myself. Best decision I've made on my own. Great car for hauling kids, groceries, and anything else. Ease of the sliding doors is great. Cargo area holds more than my previous Jeep Grand Cherokee. Getting great gas mileage - 23-25 city and logged 32.5mpg hwy on my first trip out of town. Saving $$$ on gas!!!! Love the storage compartments under the 2nd row seats. My groceries don't roll around. Back seats easy to put up and down. Plenty of room for my kids, even as they grow. Now age 12 and 8. Just can't say enough good things about this car....read morehide

I absolutely love this car! It handles and corners extremely well. Mine has plenty of zoom-zoom. I can fit my kayak in the back with all of the seats down or fit three or four teenagers in the back with relative comfort. I absolutely HATE big cars, suv's and minivans so I was thrilled to discover the Mazda 5. I think it is in a class all of its own. There is nothing else out there that is a 6 passenger, with good fuel economy, sporty handling and good looks. I am thrilled driving it whether alone or with a car filled with teenagers. And Kayakers...you don't need an expensive rack!!
Do yourself a favor - GO GET ONE! I bought it new - which I never do and I have not had one moment of buyer's remorse. The stereo is excellent...seats are comfortable...I have no complaints....read morehide

generally speaking we love our mazda 5. it's our first new bought car. it's easy and fun to drive. it has great interior quality and enough space on the second row. third row it's ok. i wouldn't recommend sitting there of longer periods like long haul driving. i had only one major issue with the power steering. the pump had to be replaced, due to stiffning of the steering wheel after 10000 miles. but in general a good mini van. zoom zoom...read morehide

This vehicle is AWESOME! I can't even explain how happy I am with this Mazda 5. We have three kids and wanted something that was going to be easy to load/unload them, something that had room for everyone but was still compact, and something that didn't leave me feeling like I was driving a house around on wheels. This vehicle has it all! GREAT gas mileage, sliding doors with huge windows that roll DOWN, fantastic stock features that you normally wouldn't find in just about any other make, AND I actually feel kinda cool in this vehicle because it doesn't look like a car...but it isn't a van either. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVEEEEEEE IT!...read morehide
