2008 Mazda 5: New tires needed at 35k miles, engine thermostat froze at 37k miles, cracked block and needed to replace engine! (covered). 28k mikes, wiring harness for remote starter shorted out (horn chirp and lights flash at random), took 4 weeks to get a replacement from Japan. Windshield cracked at 22k miles, no chips, just light freeze overnight, pow!
Actual mileage has been 19-21 mpg. Warranty coverage covered most, but surprising failures from an otherwise reliable manufacturer....read morehide

Very practical car (van) to have. I got 2009 GT & the price is great. Just fun to drive & lots of space inside, doors slide very easily.
On the bad side the road noise is annoying, gas milage is about 22 MPG "highway". The 4 cylinder engine has trouble climbing hills. The black interior get dirty very easily. Accessories are expensive (roof rack about $ 500 & make the car looks ugly- I insist it is a car).
The rear ventilation system is just air, not cold or hot (weired)....read morehide

I can't say enough good things about my Mazda5. I did not want a full-size mini van and when I saw the Mazda5, I loved its size and "quirkiness." I purchased mine new in early 2007 and have driven it for nearly 31 months. I usually get tired of vehicles after about two years, but I still LOVE my Mazda5. My brother even bought one after he saw mine and he loves his too.
I was aware when I purchased the vehicle that the third-row seating is not roomy enough for adults and with the third-row seating up, you need a roof rack with a cargo box/bag to hold anything for a trip. But I wouldn't say that this is a "con" since the Mazda5 is not meant to be a full-size mini-van. The Mazda5 has plenty of room for my family of four and cargo in the back with third-row seating down. My kids love all of the hidden storage spaces (under the back seats) and in between the back seats.
The only other things I would change in the design if possible is to make the body ground clearance higher and to add power rear doors....read morehide

Bought this car three months ago and love it more and more everyday. Looked at this mini over a year ago but my husband didn't like it and talked me into a Toyota Seinna. He kept dragging his feet so I went and purchased the 5 for myself. Best decision I've made on my own. Great car for hauling kids, groceries, and anything else. Ease of the sliding doors is great. Cargo area holds more than my previous Jeep Grand Cherokee. Getting great gas mileage - 23-25 city and logged 32.5mpg hwy on my first trip out of town. Saving $$$ on gas!!!! Love the storage compartments under the 2nd row seats. My groceries don't roll around. Back seats easy to put up and down. Plenty of room for my kids, even as they grow. Now age 12 and 8. Just can't say enough good things about this car....read morehide

I LOVE my Mazda5 (mine is 2008, though). I get compliments on it all the time. I have the black Grand Touring and my windows are tinted dark and even teenagers will tell me how awesome my car is! Ha ha The ride is very smooth, gets great gas mileage.
My main concern is that the third row seating, where my small children sit, is just inches from the back of the car and I'm always worried that if someone hits us from behind, there are only inches from that and my children and surely they will be seriously injured. The more I think of this the more it worries me and so I have decided to trade in my Mazda5 for safety reasons, or at least some peace of mind. Other than that (which is a big concern for me) this car is excellent in every way....read morehide

This is one great vehicle, with the space of a full sized mini van and the fuel economy of a small car. In this day and age it is the perfect vehicle for a family of 4, especially when parents come to visit.

I just bought this car after several months of researching. I was a tried and true van mom but after my test drive I fell in love with it. My kids think they are riding in luxury while I still have the feel of a minivan. I absolutely love this car~ love the dealership. They were extremely informative and helpful. My husband bought an RX8 two days after I bought my car. We just might end up being lifetime Mazda owners!...read morehide
