Purchased As New
I purchased this car using the clunker law and I got an amazing deal for the car. Some dealerships were willing to work more with the price than the others, so it does pay to shop around at several Mazda dealers.
First, I'll start off with the good things. The car is amazingly beautiful. It has a soft ride and it feels like you are riding on air. I got the 09' Grand Touring, so it came with the leather, heated seats, rain-sensing windshield wipers, adjustable headlights, blindspot detectors, GPS navigation, Bose sound system, 17" wheels, moonroof/sunroof, keyless entry and start, ability to drive the car manually, and awesome dashboard displays(shows: current mpg, avg mpg, remaining miles left in the tank, avg speed, and time). These features create an amazingly comfortable and stylish car. My car has sufficient pickup and it is easy to get good mpg if you keep the dashbord setting on 'current mpg' and drive to get the best mileage. The blind spot detector is great especially if you are merging with several other lanes. This one feature is the envy of every other car owner I know. It even works better than the volvo system(my uncle has a volvo). That system picks up everything: walls, cones, trees, cars, ect. The Mazda system only picks up moving objects, and so far has not missed a car, including motorcycles! One of the other amazing things about this car, not mentioned too often, is the power of the a/c. It is instantly cold from turning on the car. I bought this car in the middle of the summer so this feature was a pleasant surprise. The car is amazing to drive. It is so comfortable that it is optimal for long drives or road trips. I got the car 2 1/2 months ago and I already have over 4500 miles on it (I average between 20,000 and 25,000 a year). I hope I can still say it is reliable 5 years from now when I have 100,000 miles on it. All the extra bells and whistles really put this car above others which fall under the same class. I prefered it to the Camry which was too plain and boring looking. It also seemed to have less trunk space and less features. I also checked out the Lancer, but I have heard a lot of rumors on Mitsubishi's poor track record of reliability. It was better than the Honda Accord and the Nissan Altima, which both lacked features and style comparatively speaking. When I conducted my car search I boiled it down to two cars: the 2009 Mazda6 and the 2010 Subaru Legacy. The 2010 legacy would have been my choice due to all wheel drive and better fuel economy (23/33) with the CTV transmission (which works great). However, the Legacy cost over $2,500 more and I could not afford to lay down an extra 3,000(nor did I want to). I am getting great mileage with my car. The sticker says that I should get 21 city, 29 highway, and 24 combined. I keep a record of my mileage. So far I have averaged probably about 22 city, 31 highway and 26.5 combined. Not terrible for a mid-sized sedan.
Those are the positives, here are the negatives. I went to 4 different Mazda dealerships and I was only happy with one(and I didn't even buy from that one because they would not take the clunker due to complications so I had to buy from another dealer). Mazda dealers tend to be very aggressive in their sales tactics and that is a real turnoff for me. Even though I had to buy from a dealer I was not a big fan of, I really don't mind, because ultimately I am shopping for the best car, not the best dealer. More on the dealer later. As I mentioned before, I have a GPS system. This system works great but there was a malfunction which happened occasionally when I started the car. The dealership is now replacing it free of charge (nice touch in my book). We'll see how that works out when I get the new system. I do not like the dealer for two reasons.1)They lied to me saying that my car did not come with an option for a spoiler.2)They were more expensive than the dealer I liked (by 2000)
Overall: A GREAT BUY!
