I started with a red 323, then had a green Protege--both smaller Mazdas, which lasted me a total of 20 years, combined. This time I went for the top of the line--the ebony-black '09 Grand Touring S. I have had the car for less than a month, so I can speak only about first impressions: the zoom-zoom is real ,but it's balanced with a level of luxury typical of much more expensive cars. I researched all the similar cars but bought the Mazda 6. The engine's smooth V-6 power, the manifold interior amenities, and the car's unmatched exterior styling and safety features are seriously attractive. Even with a larger budget, I could not have done better than the Mazda 6....read morehide

I purchased this car using the clunker law and I got an amazing deal for the car. Some dealerships were willing to work more with the price than the others, so it does pay to shop around at several Mazda dealers.
First, I'll start off with the good things. The car is amazingly beautiful. It has a soft ride and it feels like you are riding on air. I got the 09' Grand Touring, so it came with the leather, heated seats, rain-sensing windshield wipers, adjustable headlights, blindspot detectors, GPS navigation, Bose sound system, 17" wheels, moonroof/sunroof, keyless entry and start, ability to drive the car manually, and awesome dashboard displays(shows: current mpg, avg mpg, remaining miles left in the tank, avg speed, and time). These features create an amazingly comfortable and stylish car. My car has sufficient pickup and it is easy to get good mpg if you keep the dashbord setting on 'current mpg' and drive to get the best mileage. The blind spot detector is great especially if you are merging with several other lanes. This one feature is the envy of every other car owner I know. It even works better than the volvo system(my uncle has a volvo). That system picks up everything: walls, cones, trees, cars, ect. The Mazda system only picks up moving objects, and so far has not missed a car, including motorcycles! One of the other amazing things about this car, not mentioned too often, is the power of the a/c. It is instantly cold from turning on the car. I bought this car in the middle of the summer so this feature was a pleasant surprise. The car is amazing to drive. It is so comfortable that it is optimal for long drives or road trips. I got the car 2 1/2 months ago and I already have over 4500 miles on it (I average between 20,000 and 25,000 a year). I hope I can still say it is reliable 5 years from now when I have 100,000 miles on it. All the extra bells and whistles really put this car above others which fall under the same class. I prefered it to the Camry which was too plain and boring looking. It also seemed to have less trunk space and less features. I also checked out the Lancer, but I have heard a lot of rumors on Mitsubishi's poor track record of reliability. It was better than the Honda Accord and the Nissan Altima, which both lacked features and style comparatively speaking. When I conducted my car search I boiled it down to two cars: the 2009 Mazda6 and the 2010 Subaru Legacy. The 2010 legacy would have been my choice due to all wheel drive and better fuel economy (23/33) with the CTV transmission (which works great). However, the Legacy cost over $2,500 more and I could not afford to lay down an extra 3,000(nor did I want to). I am getting great mileage with my car. The sticker says that I should get 21 city, 29 highway, and 24 combined. I keep a record of my mileage. So far I have averaged probably about 22 city, 31 highway and 26.5 combined. Not terrible for a mid-sized sedan.
Those are the positives, here are the negatives. I went to 4 different Mazda dealerships and I was only happy with one(and I didn't even buy from that one because they would not take the clunker due to complications so I had to buy from another dealer). Mazda dealers tend to be very aggressive in their sales tactics and that is a real turnoff for me. Even though I had to buy from a dealer I was not a big fan of, I really don't mind, because ultimately I am shopping for the best car, not the best dealer. More on the dealer later. As I mentioned before, I have a GPS system. This system works great but there was a malfunction which happened occasionally when I started the car. The dealership is now replacing it free of charge (nice touch in my book). We'll see how that works out when I get the new system. I do not like the dealer for two reasons.1)They lied to me saying that my car did not come with an option for a spoiler.2)They were more expensive than the dealer I liked (by 2000)
Overall: A GREAT BUY!...read morehide

Had a fusion V6 last..a great car. But this car has so much technology you can't believe it. quiet ride, secure handling, great fuel economy. Love the lighting for the gauges. Really cool. Huge trunk, all the safety 5 star ratings, manual automatic will be usefull in snow. Even the lights are adjustable so the on coming traffic and the car in front of you isn't blinded. Great job Mazda!...read morehide

We purchased this vehicle last weekend as a dealer demo. Car was loaded with all options and we were offered a great deal. I was hesitant about buying a car with about 5K miles, and we were looking for a new Mazda 6 without all of the options, but the price we paid was less than a base S GT.
We test drove an Accord, the only other car we were investigating, and the Mazda drove so much nicer, had better acceleration, had better laid-out controls, and was much quieter on the freeway. I'm a die-hard Honda guy with my last four cars being Hondas, and my wife had always envisioned her next car would be an Accord, but she was actually let-down when she drove a 2010 model.
We're both glad we decided to test-drive the Mazda 6 S Grand Touring. It looks, drives and has the amenities of a much costlier vehicle and I am proud to have one in my garage!...read morehide

Great Car to Start, But then After 26000 miles the engine started making a light clicking noise. Well I will make this short after 2 months at Dahl Ford in Lacrosse Wisconsin I was told to come get my car and that my warranty had been canceled on my engine. I have all my service records and gave them a copy, at least the ones for the service they didn?t do. I was told that due to lack of maintenance. my warranty was void. 26000 miles and Mazda did the service on the car I was told the car wasn't serviced. So after dealing with Bob Dahl who was no help at all until i mentioned trading my 6 in on a new car I am left with the help of an attorney. Bob told me that all i have to do to reinstate my warranty is by a 7500$ engine from Mazda and every thing would be ok. I have been in contact with Mazda USA and they are going with what the dealer says. The person I talked with there Keith told me i am on my own. Over all what a scam every mechanic I talk to says there is no way after 26000 miles the engine should go. Through most of this I always said I must have just got a bad one but it was no big deal, but now I will never buy a Mazda again. This my wife?s car and drives very cautiously. So with the tough car market out there give the other guy a look don?t get stuck with a car that you still have to make payments on and doesn?t run. Also if you are from the Lacrosse Wisconsin find a different dealer one that will have a set and stand behind there customers....read morehide

I purschased my 2009 "6" in June, traded in my Camry which I had for 10 years 140,000 miles. First the issues with the Mazda. had to return to dealer to fix noise coming from driver side shoulder seat belt housing unit, screws were lose insise. Second, is also vibrating plastic noise from glove-compartment and shifter housing unit. Third, The FM radio signal is awful, the same stations came in clear with my Toyota. The static is so annoying sometime I just turn off radio, brought it bak to dealer they couldnt find anything wrong and said the connections were fine. That it was factory installed system embedded antenna in rear window.
Good things about the car are Handling, Power, Fuel Economy, Roomy Interior, Curves.
I just hope this car has the long term quality my Toyota had only time will tell....read morehide

this is my second mazda. I purchased this to replace a 1999 626, which I bought new. This model is more refined than the 626. I priced the Camry and Accord. I got a much better deal with more in it than either. I like the ride of the mazda over honda and toyota. My wife loves the heated seats, bluetooth, and style. She cannot get used to looking at the dash when she shifts from park to drive or reverse....read morehide

I bought this car after comparing to the Nissan Altima, Honda Civic and Volkswagen CC. After test driving each one, I quickly realized the Mazda 6 was the most balanced mid sized sedan on the market. Some cars excel in an area or two, while the Mazda 6 has everything a typical driver would ever need for a great price. Leather interior is great and comfortable. On par with the CC in terms of styling. As smooth of a transmission as the Honda. Sportier than the Altima. My only complaint has to do with the 4 cylinder engine I choose over the V6. It was a tough call, but since most my driving is mainly city, the extra 8 MPG meant more than 100 hp. It is responsive enough for everyday driving, but can feel a little underpowered when merging onto a freeway. Overall it is a great car and I would recommend anyone interested in this segment to give it a test drive....read morehide

I absolutly love her. She is roomy and handles like a match car on rails. Seats are a little stiffer than I like but ok. 4cyl has decent hp for a 2.5 litre. Get up and go will work even in the biggest cities, but passing on a 2 lane has to be thought out.
Biggest con is there is no aftermarket go fast parts for it yet. Best I have been able to do is a K&N airfilter, which isnt enough. It would be great if an aftermarket turbo kit was available, that way you could retain economy and have the hp when it was needed....read morehide

I have owned my Mazda 6 just a month, but I am in love! Having previously owned Nissan, Toyota, Dodge, Audi, Ford & VW, I can honestly say Im in love with Mazda! Like most, I wanted it all, and I got it. Nothing on the market in this price range was as beautiful in appearance. The car is just darn SEXY! The lines, the curves, the exhaust system integrated into the rear bumper, the spoiler, it just looks sleek and sexy. When I took it to work I had all my coworkers telling me how hot the car looked. The interior is just as great. I purchased a black car with the tan/black 2 tone interior and it just looks fantastic! The 2 tone interior is very unique to this price range. Got the windows tinted, and it just looks gorgeous. So...looks great, how's the performance? This car does not disappoint! I have the V6, and this car has power. Got to 60 mph in no time, and the ride is nice and smooth. I got way more than I expected. As far as the features go....there is really nothing more to want or need. Read the other reviews about the car not auto locking, but that is not a problem for me. I did get the fully loaded model with navigation, 6 disc changer, blue tooth etc...but when I priced it out and compared to other mid size sedans in this range, you get way more for the money with the Mazda 6. (Especially if you know how to haggle price...which I do...lol). The blind spot sensor is awesome, and a feature not available on any of the competition. I must have looked at every mid size sedan on the market in the $20k - $30k price range and the Mazda came out on top on just about everything. I also looked at the Altima, which I have (an 05 that I also love), and gave my Altima to my son. I also test drove the new 09 Altima, and loved it as well, but when I did the side by side comparison and read all the reviews, they were neck and neck. What pushed me to the Mazda...when I compared apples to apples, I just got so much more for the money and some features that are not even available on the Altima. My dealership also gives a lifetime powertrain warranty standard with every purchase. I am in love with my car!...read morehide
