After taking this car out on the racetrack, I have to say that the acceleration is rediculous, the braking is insane, but the corerning is the best part. This car sticks to the track. My girlfriend almost threw up after one lap around the track (16 turns). You can pull almost a lateral G through a corner, and accelerate out of the turn in a 4-wheel powerslide into the straight with the car perfectly balanced and under control. With a few bolt-on modifications, it can be upgraded to 600+hp and mounted with R-compound racing tires for serious performance gains. One Audi owner referred to my car as "The Black Menance." I wore out the stock Potenza's in less than 3K miles. More fun to drive than anything else you can buy for this price. Get one if you can, and take it to a racetrack near you....read morehide

I have now owned my White GT-R for 6 weeks as a daily driver, and put 2,500 miles on it. A superb overall experience so far.
My previous car for 3 years was an M6, also an excellent machine with which I was happy as a clam.....until I tried the GT-R. Let me try to briefly compare the two.

Exterior Looks: Advantage GT-R
Interior finish: Tie
Back seat usability: Advantage M6
Trunk Space: Slight Advantage M6 (both have surprisingly large trunks).
Performance: GT-R
Transmission: GT-R (The dual clutch is much smoother)
Engine: M6 has a superb engine but so does the GT-R. Adv GT-R.
Service Program: Advantage M6 by a long shot. While owning both an M5 and and M6 during the last 6-7 years, I have only paid for gas and tires!!! Brake jobs, clutch jobs, oil changes etc covered by BMW. Thank You!!
Electronics: Advantage GT-R by a long shot.
Sound System: Advantage GT-R
Noise: Engine and transmission noises heard a lot more in the GT-R. Advantage: whichever you prefer.
Gas Mileage: average for highway M6 19 mpg, GT-R 21 mpg.
Average: M6 12mpg, GT-R 14 mpg.
Transmission: A few individuals out there are whining about the transmission and the fact that that Nissan does not cover for breakage while launching, if the VDC has been turned off. All I can say is: be realistic. This is a high powered machine, and frequent abuse will get you sooner of later no matter what you drive. The risk of damage is now much less than when the first cars came into the country. The reason is that the software for the launch has been modified.

I wish Nissan had attached the paddle shifters to the steering wheel, like on the M6, instead of the steering column. That way the paddles would follow the wheel while turning, and the fingers would always be on the paddles.

If you are the shy type, do not buy this car!! You have no idea how much attention it attracts. I have daily up to 10 people who wind down windows in traffic, come up to me to ask questions etc. Others just give the thumb up....read morehide

I am a proud owner of one of the few reds in Houston, and there is nothing negative I can honestly whine about this car. The tranny?! About a handful of about 2400 owners experienced such problem, and they know what abuse they had put the car through! Furthermore, if you would take this car to the track every weekend, then what's $20,000 is going to matter. If you can't or are unwilling to pay for the maintenance in having fun with these cars, then I guess either you don't buy these kinds of expensive cars (including 911 turbos, Z06's, and the likes), or don't abuse them as much. And this is not mentioning about costs for regular periodic fluid changes!! If you enjoy cars of high performance, the GT-R is worth every penny of the $79,419 U.S. price tag. Look into how much one of them cost in Europe and UK.....read morehide

GT-R owners or would be owners-----Get the fine print of the warranty on this bad boy. If you launch the car by activating the LC and shutting off the VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control), the likeihood of you losing your tranny will happen and guess what folks? Its not covered under Nissan Warranty! Yes Nissan boasts that the car will go 0 to 60 in 3.4 sec but that is using the LC. And the repair costs for the tranny is $20K! Yes, it is $20K to fix this. Also if your GT-R was taken to a race track and raced, that voids the warranty as well. So basically, you pay for this pretty car but can only drive it as a car and not use all the bad boy functions. We were looking at buying on but not anymore since this is a major problem that Nissan has. What's the point of paying all that $$$ just to have the car sitting if the tranny is not covered........read morehide

I received my car in mid-November. I got a great deal on my GT-R. The dealer offered me sticker price at the old MSRP (73k). You have to act fast if you're seriously thinking about purchasing. If you look hard enough you can find plenty of dealers that are willing to sell you a car without mark-up. Very soon the 2009MY cars will be gone and it's most likely that Nissan will raise the price AGAIN on 2010MY, which will be available next year in late January or early February.

So far I've racked up only 120 miles and I'm still following the brake-in procedures (can't rev the engine past 3.5k RPM etc.), so I can't really tell you how it performs on a track. Most of you probably already know this car's abilities, but just in case you didn't know, GT-R is available only with the sequential dual-clutch transmission. You're better off with a 911 Turbo or a Corvette Z06 if you prefer having a traditional 6-speed manual.

Anyway, GT-R is surprisingly easy to drive. The steering is light, the throttle and the brake are not overly sensitive and yet razor sharp when you start driving spiritedly.

The ride is informative but it might be a little too rough for some people. You can use it as a daily-driver if you want. Just set the suspension to the "Comfort" mode but it resets back to neutral once the car is turned off, so you basically have to toggle that switch every morning.

If I have anything to complain, a few things come to mind. The BOSE system that comes in the premium model doesn't sound very good compare to the Harman Kardons in my Mercedes Benz, but it is acceptable for a BOSE if you know what I mean. The other thing is the maintenance cost. The transmission fluid costs about $1000 to replace. Nissan sells them for as much as $90 a quart and GT-R requires at least 10 quarts. When you change the brake pads, you also required to change the brake rotors, and they're about $5000-$6000 for a set. So make sure your pocket is deep enough if you want to add a GT-R into your collection. It might be a cheap car to buy but it certainly isn't cheap to own.

A really amazing car. I was stunned when I saw one out in front of a Nissan dealership along I-75. It took me 20 minutes to turn around but I went back to look at it. The standard features are amazing, the nav system comes standard and the sony-inspired controls are incredible. There is so much that can be done to this car that it is unreal. I have seen a few Ferrari dealerships, and for about half the price you can claim all of the power.

The fuel economy was more than adequate for this car. It was comprable to other cars with similar track numbers. I am an American Muscle enthusiast; who, for a while, was considering a Dodge Challenger or Shelby GT500. But this car re-writes the rule books on power and fuel economy.

Unfortunately it was the first one in stock, so the dealer refused to let me drive it. However, they let me play around with some of the features and look at the engine. Based on first impressions I would say that this is a very reasonably-priced car. It lives up to it's "Godzilla" nickname. Anyone considering a new car with supercar performance MUST look at this vehicle. I was more than pleased with what I saw.

This was a truely amazing experience and the dealer was very helpful. Thanks to this car I am now a fan of Nissan. This car has so much going for it that it has to be an option for anyone with 80k for a car. Motor Trend's "Car of The Year" award doesn't hurt either......read morehide
