I compared this vehicle extensively with the toyota fj cruiser and this won out in every way.If you are an off road novice then get the fj cruiser. But if you want a vehicle that will take a beating and go anywhere plus run smoothly on the freeway, get an extera. I cofortably drive my offroad exterra every day on and off road without a hitch. It is built like a truck but still handles great. huge cargo space with rear seats folded. Nice rear seat when hauling around people, unlike the fj. More powerful engine than most v-8s. The back seat is uncomfortable and small.

I like my Xterra, although the sterring is loose and you seem to always have to adjust the steering wheel to stay on the road even straight (test drove one, and found that the one we purchased has also loose sterring) and the back door is small. After purchasing we put a baby car seat in and because the opening to get in the back is so small it is uncomfortable to get in and out. Not just with the baby, but with people who have ridden in the back. We got a great deal on it, brand new for 19,000. Have not used the 4 wheel drive yet, but am hoping it is good, winter snow is almost here....read morehide
