Excellent fuel economy 35/41. Fun to drive

10.5 to 1 compression ratio = premium fuel (but only 8 gallons).

First saw the Smart while in Spain for the America's Cup. Small cars everywhere. Placed order then. Car delivered last month. Never had so much fun driving in the city. Very adequate performance on Interstate 75 (70mph no problem, published top end 90, reaches highway speed easily by end of on ramps). The car has a dual mode electric clutch transmission. Shifts automatically with electronic lever in "D". Snap the shift lever to the left and the paddle shifters on the steering wheel are activated. The right side for up shift, the left for down shift. Sort of like a Formula One. Hope to never need it but the car has a 5 star crash rating because of the roll cage, door supports and multiple air bags....read morehide

So easy to get around in traffic, line changes is a breeze, parking is amazingly easy.

Cons

Only 2 passengers.

I absolutley love it, it is the cheapest car I own and my main driver, the only time I drive something else is when I have more than one passenger.
I drove it 1600 miles with only stop for fuel and bathroom.

The article author hates the Smart because it's different than what they're used to. I own one and love it! I get lots of questions & nice comments about it from most people and sneers from big SUV drivers. A fill-up for me is 7 to 8 gallons with mileage from 38-44 mpg. I'm 6'3" tall and have plenty of head & leg room but still get asked how I could possibly fit in it. The transmission does take a day or 2 to get used to, I will admit, but never give it a 2nd thought now. The author was too busy condemning something that they obviously didn't understand to notice that there wasn't a cruise control available. or that minor bumps feel like bigger ones. Cruise is now available in the aftermarket and the ride could be improved by loosing the extremely hard Continental tires that come with the car. These obvious oversights show me that the car isn't the "dumb" one here. Does the author really expect a Porsche driving experience out of a $12,000 car? PLEASE... get a grip....read morehide

It is way too small. Drives like a DOG! I'm sorry my husband brought it home.

I get better mileage in my 8 year old Prius, which seats 4 adults with room to spare! I have better leg room and plenty of space for luggage in my Prius.

Why would I want to drive this tiny golf cart? I made my husband take sell it and he bought himself a new Honda Hybrid instead and I kept my Prius for myself.

This so called "car" is a lot of hype and a waste of money for failed expectations....read morehide

I've had my smart for 4 months now and I can't believe the attention I still get from it. Living in Manhattan, there's no better car to have. I've actually been able to enjoy the city more. No more circling the block for an hour looking for parking. No more alternate side of the street parking game to play. I used to have to make 3-4 trips to the grocery store a week since I was limited to what my two hands can carry. Not any more. And get this, when I get back from the store, my spot is almost always still there since no other car can fit. I'm no longer tethered by public transport to get around the city or leave it whenever I want. It's really awsome....read morehide

Cool to walk up and buy gas and have cash still in your wallet and be able to drive EVERYWHERE!

Wonderful! Owned since april have 11K miles and have saved enough on fuel that it made the CAR PAYMENT! Yes the money I saved payed for this car. Plus it is great to drive. With the top down (Push of a button that easy) it is fun and get around with easy. Parking...forget about it..anyt place is an open spot!...read morehide

up to 48 mpg. lots of headroom, plenty of power to go on freeways, and go through the mountains.

too cute, therefore attracts a lot of attention.

I love my fortwo. Parking is easier, small roads don't bother me, and I have plenty of space for my husband and I to go on trips. You learn to pack less, and as we all know, less is more. I am safe, and other than all the attention it draws to it, it is a perfect car.
