I love this car! Subaru did a great thing by adding the "Intelligent" fuel settting option. It cuts the turbo so I get 25.5 to 26 mpg on average.

This is the best in the snow. The automatic makes getting going even easier than the second best I have had (the impreza outback, 5spd). We tried the Audi A4, and it was not worth the 11,000 dollars extra.
This Subaru is very comfortable, gets good MPG, and handles solidly. These symmetrical AWD Subaru stay glued better to the road than my old BMW (BMW with sport tuned suspension package).
If you need more room, the Outback wagon is a couple thousand more. It is noticeable taller and has impressive ground clearance. We wanted a true sedan car this time around though.
It feels safe and is quiet inside. I am not sure why this is not the number one car given its price, MPG, solid feel, and resale value.
All controls are in near perfect places. The only car with better control placement is BMW.
We test drove the Sonata, Avenger, Accord, Camry, and Altima. All, if you equip with leather and the comfort packages are about the same cost. The Subaru blows them all out of the water. I will give an honorable mention to the CVT transmission in the Altima 2.5si. It had outstanding power delivery and felt as though it were 30 HP more than it was.
I was pleasantly surprised when the dealer offered me thousands over the blue book on my '07 Subaru outback impreza. They hold there value strong (well in the Northwest and Northeast).
I have owned a '90 YJ Jeep, a '92 Plymouth, '95 impala SS, '01 camaro V8, a '07 impreza outback, an '02 325i BMW (E46), and a full size 4WD SUV....read morehide

People keep complaining about the gas mileage. I have 09 2.5i special edition and I get 22.5 in town and over 30 on road 65-70mph. I think that is great mileage for vehicle with AWD. These vehicles are good alternative to suv's People stop complaining gas mileage or go by two wheel drive vehicle....read morehide

I feel incredibly safe driving this car. It goes through snow and ice better than any SUV I've ever driven. The appearance may be on the conservative side, but i still think it's a better looking car than most of it's competitors. The 2.5 liter non turbo may not be lightening fast, but it does a good job with what it has. I rarely feel like the car is lacking power - especially when fitted with the 5 speed manual...read morehide

I just got my '09 2.5iL last week, so I haven't had a lot of time to put many miles on her, but I love this car already. My first Subie! The first of I hope many others down the road. I love the handling of the AWD, and the overall feel of the car when I'm driving it. I also love the look of it, it really looks like it cost a lot more than it did. Mine is in Newport Blue Pearl paint, and I have received many compliments on it already. I live outside of town so I do a lot of highway driving, and the seats don't make me feel uncomfortable or edgy during the commute.
There really isn't a whole lot I don't like about this car, even excepting it doesn't get the best gas mileage, and I knew that before I bought it. The AWD is awesome, and I wouldn't trade it away for all the lexuses in texases....read morehide

I own a 2005 Legacy Limited with a 5-speed manual transmission. I have waited for the 5-speed to become available again on the Legacy Limited model which has the level of convenience and luxury features I want (and hopefully with seats tolerable for long distances). Looks like they missed the boat again, and for no good apparent reason (5-speed already available in Legacy sedans, only a difference in optional equipment for Limited). I don't want the trade-offs that come with a turbocharger and extremely low profile tires in order to be able to drive a manual transmission where I live in the Northeast. Sadly, Subaru has disregarded the type of drivers responsible for their success. Even worse, this may be a result of contamination by the corporate 4-wheeled appliance mentality subsequent to an association with General Motors. After four model years, you've run out of time, Subaru. I'll probably be buying a Honda Accord at this point, as they still get it (all EX-L models, coupes and sedans, are still available with a manual transmission)....read morehide

Relatively cheap to lease, was offered at 219+tax sign and drive for a 2 year 24k lease. Zero out of pocket at sign in. It is an average car with decent but cramped interior especially the rear seats. The trunk is very small compared with cars of similar class.
The gas economy is very poor and should be given attention while making a final decision. AWD is a tool for sales people only and if you donât live in snowy area, totally disregard it. The resale value (other than the dealer books) is not good and you wonât find many buyers looking for Subaru. The appearance is good and the build quality is also ok....read morehide
