I originally owned a '97 Outback and absolutely loved it; so when we were fed up with our '07 Chrysler Town and Country MV; I said I wanted to get another Outback. I always wanted the Limited trim level because it had the sunroof; a necessity for me; a "luxury" for my husband (we have very different opinions on options!). I drove the â09 Outback Limited and it was SO smooth; the turning radius was so tight (a dream come true after a bulky MV for the past couple of years). I had forgotten how tight the ride feels but not too bumpy or hard. It's the perfect mesh.
Subaru is not a huge seller here in SC; because everyone thinks Subaru+SNOW...well SC roads like to pool water after hard rains; and believe me; the Outback's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive is an excellent solution to the poor draining roads here, hydroplaning is NO PROBLEM because the car DOESN'T.
The Limited has the Sports shift option; I know how to drive a manual and believe it or not; the sports shift thing is a bit odd initially; but it would probably be beneficial to use since the pick-up doesn't seem quite up to what my old '97 had.
The radio is INCREDIBLE, power seats, automatic climate control, sunroof are all great perks. The back seat is very comfortable and unexpected (I'm not tall, 5'5") and I don't get the sense that I'm falling forward as I do in a lot of back seats. I am very happy with this choice and plan on hanging on to this one!...read morehide

We were looking to replace our '95 Jeep Grand Cherokee, with 148,000 miles on it. First we looked at the Honda Fit. Nice little car, but we wanted an all wheel drive option. Next we test drove the '09 Toyota MatrixS with the all wheel drive option. Also a nice car, but we felt it was a little under powered. The sales man at the dealership suggested we might like to look at the Subaru Outback, which was one of the other brands they sold. We drove the 2.5i special edition. With the 2.5 leter engine and full time all wheel drive the Outback gets the same mileage estimate as the Matrix! While the car is not a speed demon (but then neither am I) it has plenty of pick up for highway merges and passing. The real time MPG readout has yet to go below 22mpg, and on the highway I'm averaging 28+mpg. We have neighbors across the street from us that have had Outbacks. When we asked for their opinion, they said the only reason they traded in their ten year old model was because they wanted a new one. In thirteen years they never had a waranty issue.
Overall we couldn't be more pleased with our decision....read morehide
