I have been a Toyota man for a long time having owned a Tercel, an Avalon and a 4Runner. This was my first Camry and have to say my last. I traded my 4Runner about a year ago due to the escalating gas prices. When I purchased the car it seemed to be great for quick trips aroud town, but when I started making long distance trips I began having issues. The driver seat is extremely uncomfortable and for some reason provides no support where the back of the seat meets the bottom part of the seat. This has been a huge issue for me. The interior head room is also lacking.
My next issue is with the Camry's sound system. I purchased the V6 XLE which came with the upgraded sound system with integrated Blue Tooth and I negotiated with the dealer to throw in the XM Radio. The Blue Tooth is extremely poor quality and for the most part the people on the other end of your conversation will have a hard time hearing you. I believe that the radio that came with the car has been defective from day one. It turns itself on and off, the XM is constantly going out. The dealership has been difficult to deal with in terms of not wanting to replace the radio head unit.
I have decided to trade in the Camry and purchase another 4Runner. I would much rather deal with the rising cost of fuel that to deal with the aggravation of uncomfortable seats, and a possed sound system simply for the benefit of better fuel economy....read morehide

This car has a very bumpy ride. Ever little bump I go over rattles my whole body. You would expect this from a sports car or a truck but not from a highly rated mid sized car. I'm really upset about the lack of knowledge from consumers report. They never said nothing about the rough ride. I guess they would give a blanket top rating to every Toyota.
On the plus side I'm going to start working out now. After driving this car and all it's bumps let me know everyday how much fat i have because it jiggles with ever bump.
The inside is full of cheap plastic and the fit and finish is really bad. Plus the windshield whippers miss a spot everytime it rain. They couldn't even get that right. Now I'm reading about the slipping transmission and I still wonder if I was on drugs when I got this car.
I'm really kicking myself for buying this car. I really didn't test drive it because Toyota's are suppose to be so great....read morehide

The design of the car is great, but the material on the inside is very cheap. The engine is weak never experienced a car so weak. Don't buy a I4 if you like speed. It needs more options like a rearview camera. Needs bluetooth in all cars and VSC with traction control. The stereo has great power but the look of it is unappealing. The blue light looks tacky and cheap. The auxiliary input is in an awkward place and hard to reach. I do not like how the rear seat does not fold down for the SE model. There is no point in buying the LE model unless you just want a big car. Slow reaction when pressing the accelerator. The seats are rough and the fabric for the seating is like a nail filer. You can feel it exfoliate your skin. The storage compartments are easy to get things stuck and hard to get out. The plastic on the back of the front seats are cheap and gets dirty quickly....read morehide

It has been 14 months and I am giving this 4 stars since I am sometimes experiencing what others call a "transmission problem". I never thought about bringing it to the dealer because nobody had any success with the problem so far. Plus, Toyotas have very good transmissions. I have three older Toyotas which have min. 150K miles on them. My older cars are not as light as this one on the pedal. This Camry accelerates good on straight paths but from stop to a right or left turn, it hesitates. A service tech calls it the drive by wire effect. Older drive by wires still rely on cable and doesn't have this problem. Anyways, my wife doesn't feel this problem. She uses this for her daily 40 mile commute. She is not heavy footed like I am and doesn't take chances on turns. I guess I have to learn how to drive this car her way. No more hard gas pedal urges from stop to go. This might do the trick on reaching 31 mpg. In fact when she drove my truck for a month to work, The MPG increased by half a mile per gallon. It's not huge but I can't repeat the feat....read morehide

We purchased our Camry last Fall and to date still have transmission slippage or lurching. The dealer has "reprogrammed" the computer several times and it still has the problem. We owned a 2001 Camry which had engine sludge problems because of too small oil return holes in the top of the engine. Now this transmission thing. Also the car need a wheel alignment because tires were wearing unevenly. Our family has owned both Toyota and other brands over the years. It seems now that Toyota is now on par with any other car maker, sorry to say. We won't be paying $28,000 plus for another Toyota.
Seating and a rattle in the dashboard area are also minuses to us. We've had the same dealer for over 10 years now the service is faltering as well. They want us to buy a service/maintenance contract. Why is that? Do they know something we don't?? My neighbor has an '09 Accord and it seems not up to par either, with harsh handling and uncomfortable seats, along with wind noise or leaks. Next time we will shop for a better buy and look at even a Ford, Chevy, or Saturn. At least the cost is less....read morehide
