i love my truck. my husband has an 08 tundra and i loved driving it, but found it a little to big for me. so i researched and looked at every smaller truck made in my area, which is all the major companys, ford, gmn, chevy. after i test drove my truck i knew this was the one i wanted. it has plenty of room for people sitting in the back seat, has plenty of storage for a truck, mine has the hard bed liner in it, i have the track railing which is great for hauling and tie downs....read morehide

Driving comfort is excellent traveling 4 continous hours // engine is quiet and break mechanism is very good // enginne is very spacious to clean. This truck would have been better if equipped with a gas tank lock. Overall, I love the beauty and performance of this truck.

I owned a 2005 tacoma and had a lot of problems the minute i drove it off the lot. the breaks locked up. so i traded it in for a 2007 tacoma and that truck was amazing i loved it was the dark blue one but i was approched an offer to buy the truck and took him up on the offer and sold it and was going to try and venture out to something else but everything i test drove (fords, dodge chevys, and nissan) none of them seemed like a soild truck or what i was used to. so i went back to a 09 toyota tacoma and out of the tacomas i ve owned this one has been the best one yet. it so amazing in the snow with the safty features. its alot more comfortable drive and isnt noisy like it the other two were. it has more cup holders than i know what to do with. i love that it had xm already installed the rear back up camera is the neatest thing in the world. has alot of horse power for a little trcuk just the right amount of room for all camping and skiing gear over all just amazing...read morehide

I also have a 1995 Toyota 4WD pickup with 150K Miles, 4 CYL, and I still get 18 MPG local and 22 MPG on Thruway (65 MPH).
After 19 years of Toyota research and development, I cannot understand why a 2009 truck cannot get better mileage.

My first truck. I Bought it brand new. After purchase I realized a few shortcomings that were not expected of a Toyota. No alarm if headlights are left on, No keyless entry, No intermittent wiper function, no daylight lights, one functional cupholder (the ones in the doors are not for coffee, the 2 in front of the stick are way too big for a normal beverage). These are little things that don't cost much but do make a difference in the overall driving comfort....read morehide

I bought a 2008 4x4 access cab with the four cylinder and manual transmission. It had 4500 miles on it when I bought it from the Toyota dealer. I've had it for a couple of months and like it so far.
This is my first Toyota truck, but we've had Toyota cars for years. My last truck was a 1998 Nissan Frontier two wheel drive four cylinder which was a great truck.
I got my 4x4 Toyota a couple of days before a big ice storm hit our area. My wife went from being negative on the 4x4 option (more expense, lower gas mileage) to being sold on it, as we were both able to make it to work every day.
The truck handles very well. The I4 engine has plenty of power for the 4x4 access cab. I can cruise at 75 mph just fine. Haven't towed anything yet, but plan to tow a trailer with canoe and kayaks this summer. Probably nothing over 3000 pounds.
The interior is laid out well and has numerous amenities despite the fact that my truck is more of a base model. Toyota has put lots of storage compartments and other extras throughout the cab.
My 15 year old daughter and 8 year old son are comfortable riding in the back seats for short trips of less than 1 hour. The rear seating is definitely in an "upright" position that would be really uncomfortable for long trips. But, you can put four medium sized adults in this truck for short trips.
This truck has fewer of the "nanny" features that drive me up the wall. I don't mind daytime running lights providing you have the ability to EASILY toggle them off. Likewise, some vehicles automatically turn your lights on in dim conditions. Or, they automatically lock your doors constantly. I wanted a truck that didn't have these things, as I do enjoy fishing and hunting and like to drive my truck back on my farm. It's hard to drive quietly through a field road at dusk when your vehicle insists on locking your door, turning on all lights, chiming because your seat belt isn't buckled, etc. Don't get me wrong, I use my seat belt on the road. But when I'm driving from the barn to the pond I have to open several gates, and the Toyota Tacoma has a procedure for turning off the seat belt chime. Yes, the "buckle seat belt" light flashes, but that beats the constant chiming. In short, it's hard to commune with nature when your truck is flashing lights, locking your door and chiming at you to buckle up when you're only doing 5 mph down a field road. My Tacoma has no daytime lights nor automatic headlights, no automatic locks and I've turned the seat belt chime off. That was a MAJOR reason why I bought this particular model.
If you never get off of a public road, you probably wonder why this is such a big deal. But for guys who like to get off road and be a little less instrusive to nature, the "nanny" features truly are a pain.
I've had no problems with this truck so far. It rides so smooth and is so quiet that I have to watch my driving or I end up speeding.
My complaints are few, but here goes. The gas mileage isn't that great, but admittedly my previous truck was a much smaller two wheel drive. I am averaging 19.9 mpg in my mixed city/highway driving, and I'm a gentle driver. I expected better mileage because I usually get a bit better mileage than a vehicle's rated mpg because I drive so gently. The truck bed comes with a plastic liner that is integral to the truck. (Can't remove it) The plastic liner is very slippery, especially when wet. Anything you put in the bed will try to slide all over the place.I went to Toyota and bought a rubber bed mat and that solved that problem. Cost about $100 for the mat, though.
Overall, I'm happy with the truck. I'd buy it again....read morehide

This truck runs well in snowy conditions, I just drove it across I-70 in colo in a snow storm and it handled great even though mine is a two wheel drive.

Got a 2009 Tacoma 2 weeks ago and love it. Besides the price of the truck everything is great. Very Comfortable and safe. With Todays economy its not worth taking a chance on anything but a Toyota with the way the american companies are struggling.

Bought the Pyrite Mica double cab 4x4 with the SR5 package with the 6 foot bed and love it good looks. Had the truck for less than a month and no problems at all. Not sure why Toyota still puts a cigarette lighter in their Tacoma but not an ash tray. I am a non-smoker and did not need nor want either. The rear backup camera is taking some time to adjust to but I am starting to use it all the time. If I had a wish list for this truck it would be a height adjustable drivers seat, an indicator light for the fog lamps, a cargo bed light, a light in the glove box and better quality tires. Overall it is way better than the other 3 brands I considered. I had owned 2 Ford trucks prior to this purchase. My local dealer had loads of inventory and was more than willing to make me a good deal....read morehide

What can I say, being my first Toyota I was excited but after driving it for three weeks I have a loud transmission noise that the dealer says is normal and already it leaks a few drops of oil on my driveway. I should have bought the ford I heard it is the truck of the year..
