What can I say.. I love the car. could've got a honda si instead but I've been driving civic all my life. The car felt a little heavier for a hatch back but then again it has a turbo on it so that's equalized itself to run fast. The car has a little problem at a start up when it's cold or on freezing weather especially in the morning. I have a jetta once and it does the same thing, a very rough start. ( rough start occurs when you leave the car longer than 3 days without starting the engine) overall that's all the problem I been having. Got the DSG and well this tranny is awesome it jerks at first but when you hit 2nd and 3rd you'll be running 60 at no time..they could've increase the rev line to 8,000 rpm instead of 6 1/2....read morehide

I purchased my 2007 GTI MkV brand new off the show room floor. I now have 26K miles. My transmission has been repaired two (2) times now, I've gone through one (1) O2 censor, two (2) fuel pumps, two (2) satellite receivers, an entirely new A/C system (due to, according to the dealership, the system "imploding"), and two (2) A/C compressors. This car is fun to drive, very quick off the line, has aggressive exterior styling (with the body kit), sporty interior details and styling, tight, responsive handling.... but the repairs that this vehicle has required over the past 12 months are ridiculous. I doubt I'll be confident enough to purchase another VW in the future....read morehide

Put simply, I loved this car until the day it started jerking/lurching from a dead stop (both in drive and reverse). It started happening about six months after I had the car. I only have 15,000 miles on it now, and it has been a continual problem, particularly when the weather is warm and when the engine is warm.

This is not an uncommon problem according to VW enthusiast sites like VW Vortex. The solution, apparently, is the replacement of the "mechatronic" unit, but since my dealership has been "unable to recreate the problem," VW has refused to replace the mechanism, and I'm looking at having to stoop to buying a Honda or Mazda.

It's a shame because everything I read raved about the GTI's DSG transmission. It has won a number of accolades, and I must say, I loved my 2001 VW Jetta.

A lot of people aren't having this problem, so you may be fine. And if you are, great. Enjoy the ride. But if you get a bum one, good luck getting it fixed....read morehide

Just bought a '09 Candy White 3-door GTI, 6-speed transmission a must for any real drivers wanting to experience how the GTI really drives... car looks and drives amazing...i bought mine with the 18" rims and sun roof, was thinking about the Thunder Bunny body kit but it brougt the price up a little too much... turbo feels and sounds amazing...car is rated for 31 MPG but i have not been able to get over 28 MPG..i don't drive it that hard so i dont know why i can't achieve the MPG but i wouldn't trade this for anything else...mine came with a aux plug for my iPod, so i can just plug it in and go, love this feature.....AMAZING VEHICLE...read morehide

The GTI is a driving Dynamo! Has performance in spades, utility [can transport my kayaks and bikes and all assorted gear] and still have room to spare for my ever-patient wife, with all her gear. Talk about value!

I love this car and let all my friends drive it so they can experience what 21k can get them. I feel like I am driving a sports car, but then when I take it out of Sport mode, I get 32 miles to the gallon. I put winter tires on it and it handles great in the winter too!

My previous car was a 05 S4 which was a beast and a great car but I have to say that I am impressed with the GTI's racing perks and the tuned up engine. The turbo works great and the car is always at your command. FSG is very smooth, it anticipates the drivers input and the gear change is amazing accurate. The paddle shifters are great for manual mode craziness. The engine whistles and growls sound like harmony . You need a race track to fully appreciate the perks of this machine including the Launch Control. Latest German technology perfected with pride.
