My last three vehicles have been the Nissan altima (95, 04 and 05), which is not to shabby on looks, gas or price, but the Passat has been a long time dream car for me since 2003. Couldn't really afford it at the time, and honestly didn't really know what to expect as far as performance. Well, I was pleasantlly supprised by my '08 Passat Komfort. It offers Luxury, comfort a smooth ride and a Dual driving experience (Manual or Automatic), black-out shades look classy on the rear windows and that has saved me money by not having to tint them out. As far as I'm concerned the Passat is comparable to the BMW 3 and 5 series as far as speed, looks and safety features go. My dream has come true with the Passat and I probably will stay loyal to VW for a While....read morehide

great car, purchased used from local dealer with 23000 miles. Great gas milage and turbo makes the car very fast when you need to get going. I am 6foot 7 inches and have good leg room but not great. Plenty of head room even with a sun roof. Seats are a little uncomfortable but my wife thinks their great. Overall best car I've ever owned...read morehide

What a great car! This is my second Passat. It's the perfect alternative to expensive foreign luxury cars (BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Lexus, etc.) without giving-up the sleek appearance, super-cool dash and ambient lighting, and the sure-footed German engineering that makes this car so much fun to drive. It's priced a little above the Camry and Accord but look at how much more you get for your money! My last Passat was good to go for ten years and now my daughter is using it (for the next ten)!!! I really love these cars....read morehide

I love my Passat. I can get 33 mpg on the Hwy and yet still have tons of power/pickup. In fact, it has enough power to whip my head back if I hit the gas. It very quiet inside even if I am driving 80+. Very smooth ride and great handling. The seats are ultra comfortable. I looked at a lot of cars below $30k, and I just don't think any compare to this one under that price point. The only minor con is that the radio and speaker system is just OK to below average, but I can always purchase a better system. Also, the center console/dash needs to be upgraded more. The dials on the radio and AC as well as the little sliding drawers feel cheap.
Overall, these are all very minor and I think I like the Passat more than any car I have ever driven over the last 23 years....read morehide

I never really owned cars, always was a truck guy. First car was a 2006 Jetta Diesel(not counting the VW Beattles I had as a kid for fun)...45MPG!! Needed more room so went with the 2009 Passat, car has been great!! 8000 miles of Dallas traffic and it still averages 28MPG overall. I'm a large guy that can't fit in those little rice burners so I like the Gremany cars for their room. The VW has a much smoother ride then my sister's BMW of equal size due to the fact that the suspension, while still being a sporty car, is not as stiff and unforgiving as the BMW and the cost is much less. My dealer is Rusty Wallis and they have been 100% about customer service from the buying to the servicing of the car---5 Star all the way!!
I will never have a need to purchase anything other then VW's as far as a car is concerned!...read morehide

I have owned American and Japanese cars and this Passat makes my fourth Volkswagen. There is something indefinable about owning a Volkswagen. The styling is beautiful both inside and out. Things seem to be placed just where they should go. This automobile is full of safety features, which puts my mind at ease. Surprisingly I seem to be getting better gas mileage out of this Passat than I did out of my 07 Jetta. I have taken my Passat on several long (8+ hours) trips and enjoyed every minute of it. I am disappointed that for it's price, the car didn't have genuine leather seating, but when all of the other factors are weighed in, this car provides a much more satisfying experience over the Japanese competitors. I now have almost 9,000 miles on this car and have yet to have any problems.
And as a side note, I bought my 07 Jetta new, put almost 40,000 miles on it, and never had a problem....read morehide

I've been driving a BMW 3 series which was an 07 model so I was not sure what to expect when I drove the Passat. The overall ride was excellent. It has a typical feel of a forigen sports car in a sedan. I've also driven Saab in the past (9-3 model) and would say it's similar to that. Great pick up when already driving at high speeds. Quality interior controls and feel. Lots of little options not found on many higher priced vehicles. Overall I would not go back to BMW. The dealership I went to was also very helpful and spent more time with me than when I purchased my BMW....read morehide

This is a follow up after owning this vehicle for 2 yrs. It has been reliable with the exception of the A/C going out at 16,000 miles but was replaced under warranty. I have 44,000 miles on the vehicle and this vehicle is running better than when it was new. Mostly highway miles and getting between 28-35 mpg. Suspension feels good especially after replacing the Pirrelli tires. Stereo system still sounds great and everything running smoothly....read morehide

The car performance is excellent. The interior and exterior are excellent compared to Japanese counterpart. The only downside is the car maintenance cost. To change oil, its cost is very high compared to the Japanese cars... almost 3X the cost. The service cost is also high compared to the Japanese cars. If only VW will lower the cost ,more consumers will buy their car. Another downside upon buying this car, the value depreciates much faster compared to the Japanese counterpart. I don't know why, maybe because of high cost in maintenance compared to their Japanese counterpart....read morehide
