This is a peppy little beast. The only problem is the gas milage just keeps getting worse and worse. I started out at about 26 miles to the gallon. 59,000 miles later and It barely gets 20 to the gallon.
All maintenence has been done religously to no avail. The performance is still the same as when new, but now I'm embarrased when people say: that thing must get good gas milage, and I have to say no it don't at all.
The inside is nice with cool lights but the seats are not good for long rides, and the adjustments are ridiculus for decline( you have to manualy crank a knob).
No glove box light, and the mp3 jack is useless.
The paint looks good but chips off easily.
The front window defroster is weak and the the a/c is hard to aim at your face .
Over all this is a nice car if you don't drive much, but after two years I would say that I'm not satisfied with this car as far as gas milage.
The competition is going to own this car if they don't change the gas milage.
I could have owned a full size car with better gas milage....read morehide

The Rabbit is filled with smart electronic features. Windshield wipers that slow when you stop, dynamic stability+traction control, 10 airbags, electronic assist power steering, etc.
The radio is wimpy (I'm a commercial audio engineer), but it does play mp3 CDs', and it has an auxiliary input. The heat and air conditioning are top notch as usual for VW. Tilt/Telescoping wheel is an added bonus. No arm rest in the 09 two door.
It won't break any fuel mileage records. In fact I put Super in mine. Did a 2,400 mile road trip this summer and was very happy though.
Basically I couldn't bring myself to buy a civic. 0 fun. If I have to pay for a car, It better deliver something in return. Safety, reliability, Dealer networks, plus it better be fun to drive. thats all I'll ever do with darn thing.
PS change the $56.00 synthetic oil every 5,000 miles, not 10,000....read morehide

I bought a 2007 Rabbit (after owning a 2003 BMW Z4) and after almost 3 years of driving it I have to say it's a great little car and actually has a few features the Z4 didn't. I looked at many smaller cars and there were none that equalled the Rabbit in quality, form, fit and function, plus a lot of torque and more horsepower than most in its class. All in all, an outstanding car for the price and not a single problem so far. Take one for a drive and you'll see....read morehide

Bought his '07 new, and after 2.5 years and 40K miles, it still brings a smile... Great controlled ride, zippy handling (w/ 16 inch wheels), auto trans with sports mode, sunroof. The ride reminds me of my old BMW. The car is not tiring even on long trips. Annoyances include the stalk control for rear wiper which "slips" on all by itself during a turn, lights that are not "auto on." Fuel econ are just okay. Also love the 5yr/50K warrantee, but that is no longer offered....read morehide

My last 3 cars were all Toyota's and my friends thought I was crazy trading in my 04 corolla for this WONDERFUL LITTLE RABBIT. I laugh at them now. This car is perfect! If you haven't driven one yet, DO IT! Or wait for the new 2010 golf to come out. It's supposed to be even better, but I would find it hard to beat. From the inside out, the car is just better! From the fit and feel of the inside, to the roar of the engine. This car is number 1!
When comparing to lesser brands Honda and Toyota, this will prove that this car is just made better. Open the doors. Feel the weatherstrips around the doors. The VW won't come off as the other do. Shut the doors. Listen how there are no rattles in the door as oppossed to the others. Now, take the hood and open it. Grap the ends in the front and shake/twist it. The hood is solid in the Rabbit and I won't even talk about the "others". Finally, do the same with the trunk. When shaking the Honda during first walkaround, it make a cracking noise that the sales man was embarrassed from. The rabbit is SOLID!
I've heard that 00-05 VW's were not reliable and that they are really stepping it up. Well, VW, keep it up! I'm one more person that has left Toyota for the far better VW.
Now, if they would just bring back the microbus.......read morehide

I bought this car in June. I was never a fan of Volkswagens because I always heard how unreliable. My local VW Dealership convinced me that they had worked on the Quality. My car has 15,000 miles on it and drives like new! No problems! But seeing the quality put in to this car, it is worth every penny. I Looked at the Honda Civic. Civic was pricey, had cheap interior and a lot of road noise. I have done my research and I know that anyone looking at cars under $20,000 would agree the Volkswagen Rabbit is a good choice! And this car does not require Premium Fuel! :) I love this car....read morehide

i bought this car because it was pretty inexpensive for such a great car and what you get. the styling is fantastic but the engine is what really makes me love this car. if you drive slow in the subburbs you will get around 27-28 miles per gallon and around 30 on the highway. i love driving this becasue when you hit the gas you feel the torque in every single gear...it's so much fun to drive. a lot of cars especially honda have less torque than power but not this baby. it handles well for an economy car without sacrificing ride comfort. i also like to listen to music pretty loud so the systems sounds great. the interior is fantastic, and doesnt feel cheap in the least bit, you dont get the plasticy feel that you get in similar priced cars. the only thing i dont like is that if you like to drive fast around town you dont get great mileage, but if you are not a lead-foot it gets pretty good milage.not sure if you want this car or another? buy this car, you wont be disappointed!...read morehide

This is my second rabbit. I had an 07 and traded for an 08... I drive alot of miles in my business and absolutely love this car. 40k spark plugs were a surprise and 50k rear brakes too, but no other maintanance costs. I will trade for another when 2010 decides a golf or rabbit. Nice 5 cylinder and nice six speed tiptronic for the money....read morehide

I've had my Rabbit a couple of months and I love it. This car is quick, nimble, roomy in front, and extremely well built with many safety features. Now I look forward to my 30 mile drive to work each day! My only complaint is the funeral car colors the car comes in. What ever happened to red, blue, green, orange and yellow for car colors? Only red in the four door, I don't understand that....read morehide
