The first thing I notice with my Touareg 2 is the handling. I have the air suspension in mine and in sport mode it lowers it self and rides like a sports car. Well... a very heavy sports car, that can haul all your ski gear into the mountains and safely trek through the snow withough chains in most conditions. The Nav is a little tricky to learn but works well once you figure it out... I added some fat vw rubber floor mats in mine that compliment the interrior very well. The car also looks and feels awsome inside with the the attension to detail.
With so many standard options. (like 10x more then you average car) there are also 10x more things that can break. But so far so good at 15k miles... everything is perfect....read morehide

Having owned 8 other four wheel drive vehicles the Toureg is by far the best in snow and with a smooth ride and xtra weight we feel very safe. Our mileage is 24 mpg on highway and with 133,000 miles on the odometer it is not leaving our ownership anytime soon. Some of the electronics take getting used to but a well engineered car...read morehide

I recently bought an 08 Toureg V6 with less than 10K miles on it. I was sceptical at first after reading Consumer reports. It seems that the Touaregs prior to 07 had some issues which have now been addressed with the Touareg 2. Sorry Consumer Reports you have this car wrong. I almost bought a new MDX and am glad I never did. My brother in law bought the 09 MDX and is already having electronic sensor problems. After 6 months the Touareg still amazes me. I recently took it to 130 MPH and it felt like driving a Japanese car at 70 MPH. I guess you cannot beat quality German engineering. I cannot wait to drive it in the snow. I did some mudd off-roading and it performed like a champ.
If you are looking for a car that you'll love buy a T-Reg if you want to follow the rest of the pack, buy a bland SUV that Consumer Reports recommends (aka a japanese car).
For myself, I have owned Japanese cars my whole life and up until now never knew what I was missing. Keep up the great work VW....read morehide

I've had my 08 Touareg for almost 2 years now. Only have about 14,000 miles on it thanks to also having a company car. I have to say it's been great so far. I started out looking at the Porsche Cayenne but was blown away by the sticker price. After trying to negotiate the sales guys tells me to look at a Tourareg cause it's basically the same vehicle. The 280hp V6 has plenty of power, it's got a smooth luxurious ride and handles extremely well. I leased it for 4 years and it has a 4 year warranty 50,000 mile warranty so I'm hoping that I'm covered if any problems arise. So far so good. I know a lot of the comments are mixed on this vehicle but hey no car can be everything to everyone. Here are some of my likes and dislikes. The stock stereo is pretty impressive and I'm a musician and would have no problem condemning it if it were inferior! The leatherette interior feels just like leather and no one I know has detected its not. The V6 has got mucho power and acceleration. Handling is superb. I had a corvette previously and while this is no corvette, I'm was shocked at how well it takes turns. The heated seats rock and take little time to do their trick. The dual zone climate control works nicely as well. Best of all, especially if you live in areas where it snows or want to do some off roading, the Tourareg is one super capable SUV. Seriously do some research, this thing is only second to the hummer in it's off road capabilities. Some things I don't particularly like... for a luxury vehicle, c'mon VW you could have added power passenger set (not just driver), real leather would be nice and I'm not a big fan of the rain sensing wipers. They just don't work well in misty conditions. I'd much rather have a set of manual wipers where I can control the intermittent interval rather than a sensor doing it for me. I was so disappointed that I had VW change the sensor which seemed to improve this slightly but I'm still not happy. The 6 speed transmission is very smooth but shifts a lot and sometimes you find yourself lugging in a high gear at low speeds. This is how VW got the gas mileage even up to the marginal level, by installing a 6 speed auto trans. The sport mode is nice which basically turns the tranny into a 5-speed with more aggressive shifting. An last, the gas mileage is poor compared to other vehicles with similar horsepower like the Acura MDX or Infiniti FX... but again you can 't win them all and I think VW has a winner with the Tourareg. For the money.. .it's one serious vehicle....read morehide

This is my second Touareg and continues to give me the luxury I want without paying just for a 'label". The build quality of the vehicle is superb and I have had no malfunctions while owning either vehicle other than on minor components which the dealer replaces instantly under warranty ( eg : rear plate light fitting popped out - they changed the pair free of charge ) . I am always perturbed when i read reviews that show this car with the "worst reliability rating ", because that has not been my experience with any VW and I have owned VW's since 1986 - Rabbits, Golf, Polo, Golf V5, Touareg 1 , Touareg 2. None of them have let me down. The Touareg 2 is a dream to own and drive. The only thing better is a Porsche , BMW or Audi....read morehide

We have owned a 2005 TUAREG which was purchased new in san diego,we currently have 106,000 miles on it and we used it extensively thru 2006,2007.and minimal mileage in 2008,but we drove it 30,00 plus miles, thru those three periods the only repairs needed were oil changes every 5000 miles,1 set of tires,1set of new brakes. WE averaged 400 miles per tank of gas which cost in 2007,$78.00 and now in 2009 cost$59.00.THE majority of our mileage was highway driving, every day.IT has performed excellent in every way and we would never trade it in because of its performance....read morehide

I love my Toureg!
You don't see too many of this car on the road, I feel super cool when I drive it. I got the full package, Love the Navigation it's easy to use, the back-up camera and other cool features. I'm too small for an SUV but this car makes me feel really safe. It's definetly an eye catcher car. The only complaint I have about this car is the gas other then that I absolutely recomend purchasing this car........read morehide

The interior layout and ride quality is wonderful. The TDI was really a no brainer for my wife and I. Great power 407lbs of torque and almost 8,000lbs of pulling power it has more than enough power!! It is easy to drive around the city and highway.
We just sold our beloved BMW 530xiT Wagon for the Touareg and so far we are very happy!! 19mpg city, 30mpg highway now that is impressive!!!...read morehide

I traded a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 48K miles in for my V6 Touareg. It's a nice car but the quality is questionable. The first time I had to lower the rear seats I thought, What? It's just poorly engineered and cumbersome to operate. The head rests have to be removed and restowed. It was a mess. Standard options are not up to Jeep GC standards and, in retrospect, I should have bought another Jeep. Also, I did not get the roof rack bars with the car - thought they'd forgotten to install them. Nope... That's a $800 option. Huh? Gas mileage is poor for the performance. I get about 18 MPG on the road - and that's with premium fuel. If I had to do it over I'd by the GMC Acadia or the Jeep GC diesel. Both are hands down better automobiles....read morehide
