I test drove the Audi A3 TDI several times, both as a driver and passenger. There are no TDI's available in my area at this time. This is a green car with average mpg of about 35, making it one of the best on the road. Sales people who have driven the car for several days claim average mpg closer to 40. The TDI I drove is a European version that is being borrowed by Audi dealerships for test drives. Most dealers in my area do not know when these cars will arrive, but most agree it will not be until late this year or ealy next year. Regarding the test drive, the car is excellent. The seats are very comfortable, the tech package is up to date, the handling is excellent, just like the gas version of the car. The diesal engine, although, provides a different ride. It delivers lots of touque (power) and with the handling you are in real control of the car and the road. The closest ride to compare is the Mini Cooper with that peppy go-cart ride, but the Audi is larger and I think more refined. The hatch portion of the car is not too large put provides more storage than a regular trunk. On the negative side, the price is high for this level car, especially when you add options. Most cars come loaded making any base price nonexistant. Availability is a problem if you want the car soon....read morehide
