Purchased As New
I bought my 'Spy' exactly a year ago ... After years of 'sensible cars' I wanted something fun, without breaking the bank ... When I researched convertibles (I live in Florida), one car popped up again and again with good consumer ratings: the Eclipse Spyder by Mitsubishi ... After test driving many other convertibles from VWs to Saabs to BMWs, I found the 'Spy' to have the sexiest exterior and the sleekest interior design, without any sharp edges or obstructing components (which just about any other car had, even in the higher price ranges) ... It also was surprisingly comfortable with lots of leg and elbow room, an important aspect for taller people like myself ... The car definitely has 'curb appeal': kids love it, adults want it ... Performance on the highway and in city traffic is excellent, with very good acceleration and marvelous traction; even in severe weather conditions (think Florida rainstorms) ... The fuel efficiency is on average beyond the advertised numbers: I usually get 25 mpg in city traffic and 30+ mpg on the highway ... The retractable top is both fun and convenient ... As promised, it does its shtick in under 20 seconds ... Just enough time to buckle up, put on your shades and chose your music on the great sound system ... Initially I thought the feature of heated front seats redundant for Florida, but on those few chilly mornings in Jan/Feb, when it is nice enough to take down the top, I was thankful for the additional warmth from beneath ... While not a car made for transporting a lot of cargo, it surprised me how much would fit into it when going grocery shopping or taking trips to South Florida with my husband ... The backseat easily doubles for additional luggage space ... It's a great car for two ... You can accommodate four passengers, but whoever sits in the backseat isn't comfortable on longer trips ... Same goes for kids: if you have them, do not make the 'Spy' your main means of transportation ... Yet: this car can easily bring out the child within you! ... The only aspect I found a tad disappointing is the quality of the plastics, used on the door interiors and dash board components: most scratch easily, even with careful handling and it is hard to detail them, as they have mostly flat/dull finishes ... On the other hand: the quality of the leather seats is very convincing and promises to hold up well to wear and tear in years to come ... Overall this car promises to be a great value for its price ......read morehide
