After test driving just about everything in the compact to mid size range, we decided on a 2010 XRS Corolla. Of all the smaller cars we found it to be the best fit for us as far as comfort fun & reliability records go. Yes the civic SI is fun, but I would not want to drive it very far due to lack of comfort. The Jetta TDI, yes, loved that one but then I talked to a few ex VW owners and heard a few horror stories. Mazda 3? Yes, another fun driver but we could not drink that car pretty. So we settled on the Corolla after reviewing the maintenance record on my mothers 1989 which after 140,000 km and 30 yrs, has required a brake light switch, and a set of brake pads (Regular maintenance there)
