I have had this car for 6 weeks & love it. My other was a 1992 Camry Wagon, with 200,000 miles, 17-21 MPG. In 12 years, no major work done. My Prius is better than I had thought it would have been. I had talked to several owners before before I bought the Prius. Some had the first one that came out and others had a year old one. Everone loved theirs, would buy a Prius again, as I would at this point....read morehide

This car drives more like a normal car then the previous models. Ride is quiet and comfortable. I enjoy driving the car, which is most important. I am constantly stunned by the mileage.

I waited for years to buy a Prius. The design of previous models was not very appealing. The redesigned 2010 Prius is sleek, sporty, and much more contemporary. Aesthetics aside, it is awesome on gas (of course) and quiet as a snail on the road. I'm glad I waited -- I'm loving my Prius!

If anyone buys this car and expects it to perform in snow, they are seriously mis-informed about what the car was designed for.
Buy a gas guzzling 4 wheel drive SUV if you want snow performance....or wait for the snow to melt and enjoy the Prius for what it was designed for. The Prius is about comfort, accelleration when needed, great gas mileage, dependability, storage capacity and more. We bought one five years ago and continue to drive it Daily. What a wonderful vehicle it has been.
Thanks Toyota....read morehide

I see your invoice price is $1100.00 lower than what I was quoted at Santa Monica Toyota. They said Invoice was $22,060 when I used my Costco Membership for a discount which is $500 over Invoice. The Prius II get's great mpg I drive 22.3 miles to work each day and today which is about normal I got 68.7 mpg. On the way home I get about 59.6 mpg I drive the 101 freeway. Toyotas hold their value and I am a very happy owner...read morehide

All in all, I am very pleased with the Prius. It isn't a race car, but I didn't expect it to be. It keeps up with traffic adequately. And it has lots of interior space, nice adequate a/c even in 110 degree weather.
Thus far I have averaged 48 MPG measured, slightly less than the 50.5 estimated by the trip computer. My driving is all city, split 50/50 between surface streets and city freeway. Some folks say that mileage is reduced by running the a/c, but I run the a/c every moment I am in the car in Arizona summer weather and the results are fine so far.
I am not completely enamoured of the exterior styling, but it seems to have improved over time and as I said, the interior is quite spacious.
The gauges take a little getting used to. They are sort of centered on the front dash rather than in front of the driver and some items are a little hard to read, but after driving for awhile, one gets accustomed to the setup.
My last car was a 2003 VW Jetta GLS TDI diesel. The Jetta was more fun to drive and its MPG was only about 4 MPG lower, but the Prius is more comfortable overall, more room for passengers and cargo.
I see complaints by other reviewers about steering, but I have seen no issues in my driving. The car is responsive, goes where I aim it and I am satisfied with its overall performance.
To resolve some of the rear visibility, I bought a plastic lens that is used in the rear window of many motor homes, cut it in half and stuck it on the lower glass panel in the rear. That solved my feeling of not being able to clearly see behind me....read morehide

Stuff I don't like:
The tiny steering wheel, combined with "remote control" steering, provides no feedback. Steering feel is too light and "twitchy". The steering wheel also blocks visibility to the steering column mounted controls. I found it difficult to find a comfortable driving position.
Body pillars, headrests, and a tiny view out the back make darting through heavy traffic too much of an adventure. The view for backing-up is just plain awful.
Push the shifter forward for reverse, and pull back for forward. Huh?
In my opinion, the information display provides too much data and is too complicated. Charts and graphs? Gimmie a break. Still haven't figured out most of it, but high tekkies might love it, and I guess I could just turn it off.
It's nearly impossible to find a good deal right now, and even more difficult to find the color and trim level you want during "clunker madness". The Toyota sales guys just won't budge an inch. One guy was taking personal calls on his cell as I sat at his desk, talking prices. I gathered up my stuff and walked out. He didn't follow me.
Stuff I Like:
All the other controls not mentioned above are easy to use.
I'm gradually getting used to the visibility problems, except for the backing-up. The body style is less stupid-looking than 2009. In "Barcelona red", ( My personal favorite for the Prius, and the color I bought ) you could almost call it "sporty". The steering wheel mounted buttons for radio and A/C are nice and easy to use. The basic stereo and CD player sounds OK, and operation is intuitive, and has an auxiliary input jack.
I'ts not as slow as I thought it would be.
Interior is nice, even in the base trim. Car has a nice quality feel. Good fit and finish, nice paint. Good rear legroom, good headroom....read morehide

I traded in my 1990 Jeep Cherokee under the Cash-For-Clunkers program and purchased this wonderful vehicle. I could not be happier. I drove two weeks and just filled my gas tank, for the first time, for only $25!!! My Jeep used $25 in gas in only 2 days! This car is amazing. It's a MUST buy for consumers looking for gr8 fuel economy and a comfortable ride....read morehide

Guy,
My first hybrid - and you guessed it .... outstanding value. Being an
Engineer and Professor - I lamented over the purchase back in June - but 2122 miles later - the vehicle goes well beyond my expectations for fit, finish and gas mileage. I am averaging 53 miles per gallon driving around the Tampa Bay area.
Toyota is the bench mark for quality, performance and hybrid technology .... and yes it is cool / and green leading by example.
The only short fall with the experience was the dealerships - Autoway Toyota Pinellas Park and Clearwater Toyota both tried to charge me an over market adjustment ($4000- and $2000 respectively) - that they justified somehow. Sun Toyota in New Port Richey did the deal for MSRP - delivered the vehicle within 7 days and re-stored my faith in the Toyota Corporation.
Good luck - and yes I am a hybrid convert.
Happy driving...read morehide
