2012 Acura MDX

- Not much.... a lot of better choices out there
- Very Poor Fuel economy 11-12 city 15 highway
Purchased As New
Uses the most expensive gas 91-93 octane and gets very poor mileage... Will not buy again. The numbers lie about fuel economy on the sticker. Stay away... wish I did.

I want to file a complaint against Acura for misleading and false marketing of MPG for 2012 Acura MDX.
I am a family of 5, besides me and my wife, we have a 9 month old, 4 year old and 5 year old. Our driving style is most safe and at speed limit, we don’t drive fast, cut sharp corners or sudden braking. My wife never had a speeding ticket in her life and I have not had one for the last 12+ years. We don’t live in hilly or snowy area either. This car has only been driven by me or my wife and mostly by my wife as it is her primary car. We had 2007 Chevy Suburban which we loved, it used to give us 15 MPG streets and upto 17 MPG freeway with regular gas. Due to recent gas prices hike up, we decided to get something smaller for better MPG to save some money. We got 2012 Acura MDX, which advertises it goes 16 MPG street and 21 MPG highway and can even be upto 25 MPG depends on driving condition and style. This is deceptive as it’s not true at all.
First all, I have tried it in all different scenarios, including driving alone, on flat roads and under speed limit. This car at best gives 12 or at the most 13 MPG in streets and 14 and at the best 15 MPG on the freeway, with the best possible driving and driving condition, plus we need to use premium gas which is more expensive. In other words, this car turned out be a lot more gas guzzler than Suburban. I contacted Zarif Saeed of Acura of Concord who I bought this car from and shared this concern, he told me to not to believe in what computer says and manually check which made no difference. Then I called the service department and asked if I can bring the car in so they can check as there is something wrong with the gas mileage and talked to Service Advisor Darrel, he told me that there is nothing they can do to improve the gas mileage and what you got is what you get pretty much. When I was purchasing this car, the salesman Thomas Almeida told us that Acura has been sued before for the MPG in the past, now they advertise couple of miles below to avoid such cases, I will probably get better MPG than advertised. He was deliberately incorrectly stating because being a salesman, he must have driven this car and must have glanced once on the MPG in the computer with his years of experience working for Acura to know enough that it’s not true. On the sticker it even says “Expected range for most drivers 17 to 25 MPG” is just fraudulent.
Anyhow, I am very disappointed with Acura for their false information from Corporate to salesman, it seems you cannot trust any statement even made by companies like Acura. I don’t know how Acura came up with these MPG numbers, maybe they conducted these tests in outer space or absolute conditions in zero gravity but their claim of EPA is fraudulent and deceptive. I feel like I have been tricked and deceived by Acura....read morehide

- Space, handling and SH-awd
- Sticking sound in headliner
Purchased As New
Overall I like this car. It has what I want. But there are problems I don't expect to encounter for a car cost 46K. At around less than 3k miles, I started to hear rattle sound in interior headliner behind sun roof whenever going over bumps in the road. The sound will go away for a while when the area in the headliner is pressed but come back later on. It's so annoying! Need to take the car back to dealer. Maybe guys in Canada had to much Molson before putting together my car. BTW, the car had a recall done four months after I bought it new.
Just don't expect above things from an Acura....read morehide
