2008 Acura TL

- Great fuel economy for the power, comfortable, fast, best bang for the buck
- Stereo could use improvement,
I've done about 10k so far on my Type S and I can honestly say that for 38k, the TL type S is the absolute best bang for the buck on the market. You will not get the same combination of luxury, power, accessories, electronics and these days, fuel economy, in a vehicle today for under 40k. Here is a quick rundown of what I think no the various aspects of the car.
Engine and transmission:
Unlike most Acura(Honda) engines, the TL doesnt like to scream to 8k rpms in search of power. It has decent power down low and builds nicely as you rev. Not the smoothest sounding engine at 6k rpm, but after flooring a G35 you'll think a little differently. While you wont be able to take out a BMW 335, the TL is more than fast enough to drain your tank if you so choose....and beat most cars on the road at the same time. On that note, it gets excellent gas mileage and you really dont find that many 6 cyl cars that get 30+ mpg on the hwy. Especially those with 286hp.
Comfort and Looks:
Looks speak for themselves...some people may not like the wheels but what else is there not to really like. I have a black TL and with a little tint to the windows it looks awesome in my opionion. I get compliments all the time. I also think the car is very confortable on the hwy. I have a 4yr old in the back sometimes and nodbody is breaking their legs to accomodate anyone else. Trunk has good space also.
Accessoris and Electronics:
This is where I give it to Japanese manufacturers. They have by far the best electronics and accessories on the market. I sometimes think if I ask the car to do my taxes it just might(ill keep hoping). Voice activated everything(even though i find myself not always using it) and lots of little features that you end up just finding. No German cars compare here. Love Aud's and
As I said before, the TL Type S is by far the best bang for the buck on the market. Would love an M3 but you can literally buy 2 TL's for the same amount it cost to lease the BMW. A loaded 335 is close to 50k as well and 12k isnt worth the extra second from 0-60. Overall, I'm very satisfied and would buy the Type S if I had to do it over again....read morehide

- Extremely fun, very quick and responsive, much more car than appearance might tell
- rides a little rough, maybe too many gadgets
I love this car, 2008 TL type S, 6 speed manual, conservative in appearance but extremely fun and wants to go reeeeel fast. Rides a little rough but very stable at high speed and will stop opn hald a dime. Feels very safe. Fuel mileage relates to driving style and is what you expect from almost 300 horses. Reminds me of my 67 GTO with space age makeover!...read morehide

- Great looks, lots of power, standard nav sytem and Bluetooth both work great
- Fuel economy, torque steer, transmission syncro
Traded a well worn (140K miles) 1999 Nissan Maxima SE 5-spd manual for the '08 TL Type-S 6-spd manual. Great car...I really like the aggressive/angry look (mine is black on black.) There is a lot of torque steer for which the computerized steering assist can only moderately compensate. But this is the shortcoming of any FRD with a lot of power. I have trouble with the transmission not engaging on the shift from 2nd to 3rd gear every so often. Still loads of fun to drive, I look forward to getting in the cockpit every day. My only real gripe is with the audio system...Two issues: (1) unlike my wife's Infiniti, there is no way to download CD titles if they aren't already encoded on the CD (2) the subwoofer housing seems to produce unwanted vibrational noise...read morehide

- Loaded cockpit, great handling, sporty look
- A little stiff over the bumps
I am the proud new owner of a 2008 TL Type-S. After owning and Integra for 14 years and loving every minute of it, I had to come back to Acura. I have always liked the TL design, but the return of the Type-S was the clincher for me. You get power, performance and style. The power and handling are fantastic. Don't expect the baby smooth ride over the bumps, remember this is the "sport" version with the acceleration and handling to earn the name. I have been looking at this car for about a year now, and I could not be more please with my purchase....read morehide

- The Driving Experience is Amazing
- Premium Fuel, Paint Not Very Durable
I purchased a used '06 6-sp TL this spring, and I have NO regrets! The total driving experience is very satisfying. After having to drive my company truck, I get home, and then strap on the TL for some real fun. You drive "on" most cars, but you get in, strap into, and are surrounded by the TL. It is very nice for a quick zip into town, or for an all day trip on the interstate. All the switches work "just right". The stock exhaust note is just audible... enough to get a glance with some rpm's, but never rude or obnoxious. Sounds like a distant race engine, but one thats off in the distance.
The car has Lots of Electronics! It does take a few days to really understand how well it all works, how its all combined into one system. The audio, navigation, climate control... its all linked together, it works SO WELL together. Honda (Acura) engineers are brilliant... and often copied. Look at the new Pontiac G8... what a cheap looking ripoff of the TL! The interior looks like a plastic, parts bucket copy of a TL.
I got stuck up in Northern Virginia on a trip, spent 3 hours in traffic... this was horrible with the manual 6 speed. Where I live, I've never sat in traffic. Ever! If I lived in a traffic area, I would have to have an automatic (at least the clutch).
I've owned some Great Cars... but this gem (we call her Allison) is all I need....read morehide
