2009 Acura TL User Reviews
5-Spd AT SH-AWD shown
- $18,823 - $21,360
- sharp look, quiet ride, fast, high tech,
- middle back seat is useless, no 60/40 rear seat split
I contemplated the SHAWD for 2 months and test drove it with both the 19' and Base 18" wheels. Here are my observations:
SHAWD is great as far as handling- flat in corners, stable but for the avg and even aggressive driver unless you are hitting Laguna Seca every weekend, or live in an area where roads are poorly maintained and AWD is a must-its not worth it. The car is heavy and with the 19's a rough stiff ride. With the 18's I noticed a stiffer ride than the FWD w/ 17's and much more cabin road noise from the 245/45/R18's.
You lose trunk space in the SHAWD due to the rear differential buldging into the truck space.
Steering wheel in the AWD is sporty but a bit uncomfortable as its chunky and has several flat and ridge spots to hold your grip, again great if your driving at Mach 1 (rarely)
Power-I dont sense a big diff against the FWD at all.
SHAWD interior-the silver stitching on the seats ( especially in black) you will either love or hate-it can be a tad on the cheesy side- Masarati and Ferrari provide this level of leather craftsmanship but ..... they are Masarati's & Ferrari's you see my point?
The FWD is excellent,,, I tested this car a ton.
Torque steer is minimal
17"s are not the best looking, but the ride is super smooth, super quiet and road handling is excellent.
Trunk space is large
Interior TECH w/ Milano leather is beautiful and the steering wheel is a nicer feel.
Overall I waited to get the SH-AWD, but in the end the FWD TECH simply won the race.. it looks the same (except for the wheels) has all the same features, ride is superb and handling/power more than anyone would need and I am an aggressive drive and the dealers offered far more agressive pricing than the AWD model.
Bottomline- the SH-AWD IMO is not worth the $3-4,000 more at all.
Neither car is a 5 person.. thats a misleading description, noone can sit on the middle back seat but a small child,, they made it too high causing anyone over 4' 8" to cram their head into the roof,, that should be corrected.
Some will hate the new look others love it, Personally it will grow on you,,, its different, sleek and modern. We love it. The car is simply awesome ( so far).......read morehide

- Awesome tech package, quiet ride, great styling, roomier, bluetooth
- Ride is a little firm
Had this car for a month and Love it. Great acceleration for a 6 cylinder. It has the best sound system of any car I've owned (BMW's, Mercedes). The CD rip to hard drive is awesome. The handfree bluetooth link works flawlessly and phonebooks can be shared between multiple phones. The ride is super quiet and seats are very adjustable/comfortable. Mileage is slightly better than my last V8 but then I do push the pedal. Received many compliments and "head turns" on the unique styling. Upgraded wheels are expensive but really finish the car well....read morehide

- good mpg, lots of gadgets, excellent fit and finish
- 17 in wheels on base model
Have had a 2004 G35 AWD and a 2007 Lexus ES350 and this new TL takes the best of both of those cars and wraps it up in a fresh new exterior. The infiniti was really fun to drive but it rattled and the dealer could never fix it. The interior in the '04 G was also cheap IMO. The Lexus has a great interior but is boring to drive and the exterior while nice looking is alittle plain. The TL has a very nice interior, especially with the upgraded leather that comes with the tech package. The TL is also fun to drive, handles MUCH better than the Lexus with good mpg. I'm avg around 20 in city driving. Even my wife said of the 3 cars she likes the TL the best and nobody can say the exterior is plain. I have read some people don't like the new style but I love it and with a fully loaded price of under 40K for the base model my pocket book likes it as well....read morehide

- Handling, Tech, Inside comfort, Best GPS
- The body. Looks like a Parrotfish. I bit pricy and needs better mpg.
I test drove this car over the weekend. I have a 2002 TL so really, they hardly compare in terms of , looks, power and the inside. But really guys, the front end of this car looks like a Parrotfish or a car that needs a set of braces. Truly a butt ugly front end. Back end not that good looking either. And when is Acrua going to get on the ball regarding a hybrid or something. They are really falling far behind....read morehide

- Look, Easy to use Navigation System, bluetooth is standard
My husband & I had been looking at cars for the last 6 months but decided we weren't going to buy until the new TL came out. I AM SO GLAD WE WAITED!!!!! I absolutely LOVE this car. We looked at the IS250, Audi A4 & Nissan Maxima, none of these cars even come close to the TL. The TL looks and feels sporty. There is plenty of room on the inside unlike the IS250. The navigation system is really easy to use. We are still learning all the different voice commands, there are so many! This is our first Acura and we know we made the best choice for the price and the features. The car handles well and has no cabin noise on the freeway. I would highly recommend this car. The grill is different and I can see why people don't like it. After seeing the car in person, totally changed my mind....read morehide

- Excellent acceleration and comfort. Love all the "gadgets" in the tech package.
- Front grill. Ugh!! Good thing this car can overcome this.
I drove the standard TL with the Tech package. Loved its acceleration, handling and overall ride. I am however, more interested in the SH-AWD, 305HP version which my dealer will have in Nov. '08. Here in the Midwest, we can get some heavy snow and rain. While the snow doesn't last very long, it can really bring everything to a crawl if you can't get around.
I have been wanting an Acura since I saw and drove my first Legend in 1985. Couldn't afford it then, now I can. I would really prefer the RL, because of its "bling" factor, but at 10K more than the TL, I just can't see it right now. I understand the RL will be redesigned for 2010. I'll look then. In the meantime, I plan to get the SH-AWD version in Jan '09. From what I have seen and driven, it is the best of the pack....read morehide

- Great fuel economy (28.6 in the first 1000 miles), awesome ride and handling, tech is GREAT!
I drove the 09 Lexus ES350 & 09 Maxima Prem prior to the 09 TL. The new TL (tech) is far superior to the others in look, technology and handling. And it cost less than the ES350 and only $1000 more than the Maxima. I owned 2 other TL's ('02 and '05) prior to this and was not sure if I was going to like the styling. I picked it up last week and love the styling. Acura continues to be on the cutting edge with technology and styling. The navigational system is much improved over my '05 and the sound system will blow you away. The control and handling is quick and the ride is a perfect combination for highway and back road driving. On top of everything, I know have 1000 miles on the car and have averaged 28.6 mpg. WOW! It's a great car!!...read morehide

- I absolutely love that the 2009 TL is more fuel efficient.
- Body Style
I am a 27 yr old female and I own an Acura TL 2005 (Pearl White). When I first saw the TL in 2004, I knew without a doubt that I would one day own one. I was most attracted to the compact size yet it was still packed with luxurious gadgets. To me, it was the most cutest girl car ever!!!!!! I am very disappointed with the 2009 body style. It's bigger and longer, which to me is more suited for males. However, since it is an Acura, I have no doubt that it will still be popular....read morehide
