- Great for Anchorage, good looks and unique.
- Expensive and no way to keep wipers thawed during heavy snowfall.
Purchased As New
As a lifelong Alaskan, I'm always looking for that special perfect car that will handle year-round driving in Anchorage. Not for off-roading or camping, but for spirited road driving in Alaska. My 2002 Audi A4 is near perfect, except it is too low. I bottom out my Audi several times a year on rough roads, ice ledges, etc. The ZDX won't have that issue, although you give up a bit of cornering and handling due to the higher stance. Subaru's and Audi's are a dime a dozen up here. Acura's are more rare, especially the ZDX at least for now. The Acura AWD system is as good or better the Audi AWD. Nice to be able to switch off the annoying traction control that comes with all AWD's. I wished it would stay off since I have to push the off button everytime I start the car. Like most cars/SUVs, including Audi, the wipers don't have a way to keep them from caking up snow and ice during heavy snowfall thus almost eliminating all visibility when you need it most. I know that Toyota's and Subaru's have front wiper defroster where the blades rest to keep them thawed.
Thanks Acura for simplifying the controls, audio, nav, etc. My 2005 Acura RL was a nightmare to learn how to use.
For a car, it has great ground clearance. Kind of strange for me to drive a vehicle that looks and handles like a sports car but has a noticably higher line of sight. Acceleration is good and handles bumpy roads extremely well. This is definetly a speciality niche car. For the wintery city of Anchorage the ZDX is near perfect. (Solve that frozen wiper blade problem and it'd be perfect.) It is a very sweet good looking cross-over and is a very fun car to drive....read morehide
