2007 Frankfurt Auto Show Preview
Mazda6

At the 2007 Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, we were introduced to the new, (European-only) Mazda2. Excellent small cars play a significant role in the success of Mazda. However, as a world player in the mid-size market, they also sell a ton of 4-door sedans, so a new Mazda6 is big news indeed.
Design changes are being kept quiet at the moment, but based on the new Ford Mondeo platform it shares, I expect to see increases in overall size and power. Some reports have the Mazda6 powered by a 250 hp, 3.5-liter, in-line 4-cylinder engine, but the hard numbers will have to wait until the Frankfurt unveiling. Official images reveal an aggressive hood with stylized front headlights, fog lights and a large Mazda insignia on the grille sure to be visible in a rearview mirror.
Chevrolet Aveo
Over the course of two days, Frankfurt will play host to both expensive and inexpensive vehicles. Topping the list of moderately priced cars, Chevrolet will introduce the new European version of the Aveo. Redesigned inside and out, it showcases a two-tier, aggressive front fascia with a sleek and functional hatchback designed trunk section.
Two engine choices are expected to be offered initially. The first is a 1.2-liter that generates 84 horsepower, while the second is a 1.4-liter that responds to driver input with 96 horsepower. The optional automatic transmission is available only with the larger engine.
