2009 Audi A4

- Styling, fuel economy, price point, quattro
- speakers, expensive roof rack options

I moved from an A6 Allroad with 100K miles to the A4 Avant. Fabulous styling, inside and out. No turbo lag compared to the Allroad, but slightly smaller, lower, and tighter on fit. The dashboard is beautiful, the MMI is fine after a little learning, and the Nav works well. I wish the speakers were as good as the prior Allroad. Love the extended sunroof. Over 28 mpg average after 5000 miles. With all the hype over the Q5 (identical dash and controls in the A4), price point and dealing on the A4 much better......read morehide

- Fuel econ., quickness, driveability.
- tough for a tall person to get in and out. Nav doesn't say street names.

bought this car about 1 month ago and have really liked it. Speed and handling are great, although i agree with others that the steering could be a little tighter. Fuel economy is terrific. Getting 30+/- on the highway. It is our 2nd car (other is an SUV) and i find myself wanting to use it all all the time. It has plenty of room when we are all in it, but is very sporty when we are not. I am an avid golfer and it fits my clubs easily which is always a big test for a small car. Media interface is Audi's usual solid, although it is hard to believe that they put in a NAV with no street names. If Garmin can do it in a hand held, how much trouble can it be. I really have been happy with this car and I tend to be pretty critical of bells and whistles and layout. it is a little tight getting in for a 6'0" 215lb man, but perfectly comfortable once you are in. Otherwise I couldn't be happier. This is my 3rd Audi in the last 10 years and has reinforced pretty much everything i like about Audis....read morehide

- Very comfortable at high speed
- Feels underpowered, sluggish acceleration, horrible computer interface

I was somewhat disappointed when I leased this fully loaded 09 Avant, and four months later I still am. In fact, I'm going to spend $750-1,000 to get this car's sofware 'chipped" in order to pep it up a bit.
I came from a 06 Subaru Outback Turbo. The Subaru was much faster, and more fun to drive in any gear up to 70mph. I also think it handled better as well. This Audi feels very heavy cornering, and just feels slow. I haven't tried it in snow, but all snow dwellers will tell you that a Subaru is terrific in snow, and that "All wheel drive" is very different from Quattro.
My next complaint is the Audi MMI (multi-media interface for controlling heat, radio, basically everything , etc.). This is way too complicated, very non-user-friendly, and requires you have a glowing computer screen open on your dashboard at all times. You can turn the screen off, by going three menu levels deep, but the minute you need to change a radio station, the screen will light up again. (Audi, BMW et al--this is not an improvement over standard CD/FM or climate control interfaces).
The car is very comfortable and very well-finished. But overall I am disappointed. I want my cheaper, faster, better-handling, and bigger Subaru back....read morehide

- Good pick and great gasmileage
- No heated seats
great for the money. My basic model comes with may extras ie, sunroof, power seats, a great "audi synphony" system. Sounds great too!

- A beautiful automobile, comfortable and well-built. Excellent interior quality.
- The steering is too light. Turbo lag. Value.
I leased the A4 base model. It's pretty stripped down, but as my wife and I have no interest in all the technology gadgets, that wasn't an issue. However, for most luxury sport sedan buyers who want all the upgrades, the A4 couldn't be termed a value. My lease deal was exceptional, so that made the difference in selecting the A4. This is my first turbo, and I find it takes some getting used to. I probably would have opted for the 3.2 if money was not an issue. As some reviewers have indicated, the steering is very light and seems atypical of a German sports sedan. However, the car is beautifully made, not a rattle or noise to be found. All the controls are pretty intuitive. I'm 6' and the car seems quite comfortable so far, although we have not taken any long drives. A recent problem occurred when I could not remove the key from the ignition. Audi service informed me this happens infrequently on A4s and is caused by some kind of computer glitch. Overall, a very good experience....read morehide

- Spectacular desing; surprisingly good performance; good fuel economy, space, and comfort.
- None so far.
We needed a station wagon. We checked out the models BMW, Volvo and Saab offer and concluded the Audi A4 Quattro Avant is far superior to all of them. It's a very modern car that looks truly beautiful and drives almost like a sports car. Ours has the prestige package with most options, including the 14 speaker B&O surround sound sytem (better than many so called "high end" home sound systems) and very useful rear view parking camera. It has i-pod dock, bluetooth, and a good (not great) GPS. We strongly recommend this car to anyone looking for a crossover or station wagon....read morehide
