The T is for Touring. However, it could stand for Turbo, as the powerplant is the ecoBoost 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6. Ford claims a 20 percent fuel-economy improvement over an equivalent V-8, but we still wouldn’t call it environmentally friendly. Although a concept, the MKT will make it to production on the same platform as the Ford Flex. The MKT wants to be a luxury transport that doesn’t limit itself to being an SUV or a sedan. Instead, it wants to be attractive but offer the owner great practicality and comfort. Lincoln says the passenger experience should be much like riding in a Lear Jet.

The exterior has an appeal, albeit not hugely emotional. It does have the classic slab sides and thick C-pillars of past Lincolns. In contrast, the interior is what Lincolns of the future should aspire to—classy for sure with artistic touches that could easily make it into production. The chrome work is particularly good. Even the 20-in. wheels are nice with a two-tone of chrome and satin.

Doors open like an Aston Martin Vantage’s, at roughly 15-degree angles and give the big car a larger than life character when open. An unusual feature is the windshield that continues up over the car all the way to the rear passengers. This is neat, but highly unlikely to ever make it to production. Compared with the predecessor of the Navigator and Aviator, the MKT should be a vast improvement in every way but towing.
