This mid-engine 4-passenger concept is designed to compete for the automotive X-Prize for the first production car to attain fuel economy of 100 mpg.

With the first production model promised for 2009, Loremo says its car, in base LS trim, is capable of 117 mpg with its base engine, a 2-cylinder 20-bhp turbodiesel mounted amidships and mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The GT model features a 3-cylinder turbodiesel with 50 bhp. Acceleration is leisurely, with the LS capable of 0-100-km/h (0-60-mph)0-62 mph acceleration of 16 seconds with a top speed of just under 100 mph. The GT should be able to hit 62 mph in about 10 seconds and has a claimed top speed of 120 mph.

In addition to the fuel-sipping diesel engine, the Loremo is expected to reach its lofty fuel-economy targets, thanks to its diminutive size and lightweight construction. The steel tub that forms the chassis is said to weigh under 200 lb. and the compact package, which in the flesh looks like an overgrown go-kart, has room for four tightly-coupled passengers. The two back passengers face rearward, which allows for a steeply raked rear hatch, that provides access to the seating area. Those riding up front enter the car through a clamshell opening front clip that includes the windshield, hood and internal components such as the dash and the steering column.
