Geneva Auto Show Wrap-Up

The Swiss love luxury and nowhere is this more apparent than at the annual Auto Show held in Geneva. Whether it is chocolate, watches, skiing or clothes, Switzerland is a country that knows how to make and showcase the finest products in the world.
Take, for example, my new Victorinox, (Swiss Army Brand) carry-on luggage that I acquired before leaving for Geneva. It not only offers superior storage and security, but also accessorizes the handles and protects the four corners with carbon fiber. Only the Swiss can blend functionality with luxury.
At the 77th Geneva International Auto Show, it was apparent from the start that the focus of this year’s extravaganza would be luxury and functionality. Of course “green” technologies would play a significant role, but environmentally friendly vehicles are now so much a part of world consciousness they have become a functional requirement for success in the auto industry.
Volkswagen took the initial lead at Geneva, showcasing its latest vehicles including the Passat BlueMotion and Golf Variant. The display areas at any VW stand whether in Detroit or Frankfurt is always light and airy. The Geneva display didn’t disappoint. Quality issues aside, Volkswagen is a car company that seems to be in tune with what consumers want, especially in Europe.
Audi followed suit with the much anticipated launch of the A5 and the S5 coupe. Shockingly beautiful from any angle, Audi demonstrated again just how good it is at designing a vehicle that meets the luxury demands of today’s consumer.
