Start spreading the news, I’m leaving today. Ok, maybe not today, but Tuesday will be here soon enough and it will once again be time to head to the Big Apple and see what the automotive manufactures have on display at the 2007 New York Auto Show. Here are some of the highlights we expect to be there.

General Motors plans to put their best foot forward and reveal a total of 6 new production models and one radical new concept vehicle. In need of making a big splash, Cadillac will introduce the 2008 STS with refreshed styling and a new standard V6 engine producing 298 horsepower.

Equipped with the latest in safety and performance technology, the next generation StabiliTrak system will also make its way into the new STS. Expect comfort levels to be extremely high as Cadillac takes dead aim at the European and Japanese competitors that now dominate a market the General once took for granted as their rightful domain.

With gas prices fluctuating wildly and fuel shortages constantly in the news, it comes as a bit of a surprise that Hummer will introduce not one, but two models at the New York Auto Show.

The 2008 Hummer H2 will showcase improvements in both interior spaciousness and overall comfort, without sacrificing any Hummer DNA. GM also claims an increase in fuel economy, something that many would have deemed unthinkable only a few years ago. Out to prove the notion that big doesn’t necessarily equate to being harmful to the environment, it will be interesting to see how the newest Hummer is received.

Right next to the new H2 we expect to see the Hummer H3 Alpha, the second member of the high performing Alpha series. Equipped with a 295-horsepower V-8 engine the H3 Alpha should put some distance between itself and the other “dogs of war” in the bad boys end of the SUV market.

Making its debut in North America, Saab will take the stage in New York with the BioPower 100 Concept that made its worldwide debut at the Geneva Auto Show in early March. Showing a commitment to biofuel alternative engine technology, the BioPower 100 utilizes a turbo engine optimized to run on bioethanol fuel. With 300 horsepower on tap, it promises maximum power and low CO2 levels for use in future vehicles. Hopefully this technology will see the light of day in dealer showrooms sooner rather than later.
