To keep ahead of the H3 Alpha and its near 300 horsepower, the Hummer H2's 6.0-liter V-8 has been bumped up to a 6.2-liter that pumps out 393 bhp-enough to raise its towing capacity to 8000 lb. and require a larger cooling system. In case that wasn't enough to stay ahead, the H2 receives two more gears with the Hydra-Matic 6L80 6-speed automatic transmission. Combined with the new, more rugged transfer case and 3.73:1 rear axle ratio, a crawl ratio of nearly 39.7:1 is achieved.

Interior improvements include new seats, a new dash and new gauges-but it still looks like a Hummer. Improved radio options and an overhead DVD entertainment system are sure to appease the kiddies. Safety updates include curtain airbags for all three rows, and rollover detection and mitigation as part of the stability control. An improved traction-control system is also implemented.

Revised steering gears, intake and exhaust are expected to result in a better-driving and quieter H2; we have yet to drive it to verify the claims. To differentiate the new H2 from the old are chrome-painted bumpers. Pricing isn't set yet, but we expect the price tag to go up slightly.
