New York Auto Show - Day One
New York City in the springtime is a romantic setting equal to any in the world. A similar feeling arises as you walk beneath the canopy of the Jacob. K. Javits Convention Center. Spring fever hits the show floor and spotlights reveal your next true love. It is a great sight for anyone passionate about automobiles. Here are some of the highlights we experienced on Day One of the show.
2009 Acura TSX
Acura started the event in New York with a rush. As music pounded a rhythm designed to stir emotions to a fever pitch, the new 2009 Acura TSX sprang from undercover at full speed, stopping just as quickly at center stage. A few more feet and it would have been sitting in my lap. With an entrance like this, who needs coffee in the morning?
“With powerful looks and performance, the debut of the new TSX has taken an enthusiastic bite out of the Big Apple,” said Dick Colliver, executive vice president of sales. “Besides offering enhanced performance, the 2009 TSX has improved fuel economy, lower emissions, added safety features, and more technology than ever before.”
Under the hood resides a 2.4L, DOHC VTEC 4-cylinder engine good for 201 hp @ 7000 rpm. Torque is rated at 172 lb-ft @ 4400 rpm (6MT); 170 lb-ft @ 4300 rpm (5AT).
Acura is on a mission to gain new customers loyal to the brand for life. Technology and environmental responsibility are two keys to success in the 21st Century. With this in mind, the newest TSX meets EPA TIER 2–BIN 5 and CARB LEV II Ultra Low Emission Vehicle standards.
A trademark of the brand, the 2009 Acura TSX sports the most aggressive front grille found on any midsize sport sedan to date. It’s as if the TSX is grinning, waiting for a chance to attack the open road and dominate the asphalt with athletic prowess.
The new TSX is longer, wider and sports an increased wheelbase from the previous model. This translates into better handing, especially when combined with a new fully independent front and rear suspension with dual-stage dampers.
Inside, the 2009 Acura TSX takes full advantage of the slightly larger body. The list of standard equipment now includes a glass moonroof, dual-zone climate control, leather seats and a premium 7-speaker sound system that adds USB port, auxiliary jack, Bluetooth and hands free functionality.
