Carroll Shelby’s body in limbo due to family legal fight

According to TMZ, the body of late racing legend Carroll Shelby has been parked in a Texas medical examiner's office since his death last month due to an ongoing legal battle between his children and his estranged wife Cleo Shelby. Even in death, Carroll Shelby comes back to the courthouse.

While Carroll Shelby had filed for divorce from Cleo Shelby in 2010 after 13 years of marriage, the divorce was not final when he died on May 10. TMZ says that Shelby's three children claim they have a signed document by their father giving them the rights to his remains. Cleo Shelby has somehow countered that Carroll Shelby was in no condition to sign any such paper, although months before his death Shelby's attorneys asked a court to annul his marriage to Cleo.

Caroll Shelby never shied away from a lawsuit to settle a dispute, and it's sad but unsurprising that his estate ends up there as well. We've reached out to Shelby attorneys for additional comments and will update when we hear back.
