Henrik Fisker, the designer and co-founder of Fisker Automotive, announced today he was leaving the company over "several major disagreements" with management about its future. Given that Fisker hasn't built any of its Fisker Karma plug-in sedans since July, and doesn't have a supplier for its batteries, what future it has depends on finding a buyer, likely from China, for its technology and designs.
Meanwhile, the company still owes the U.S. government nearly $200 million, and members of Congress have already expressed worry that a Chinese firm could pick up taxpayer-sponsored tech on the cheap. While the Fisker Karma is a favorite car around Hollywood — counting Leonard DiCaprio and Justin Bieber as owners — its box-office returns and critical reviews don't bode well for a sequel.
