James Bond’s “original” Aston Martin DB5 can be yours for $4.67 million

The most famous car in the world isn't the rarest, nor the fastest, nor even the most expensive. It's never been in a movie — although it was built for one — and none of its previous owners hold much claim to household fame. Yet it's now for sale at an asking price of $4.67 million, all because of its connection to James Bond.

This 1964 Aston Martin DB5 never shared a frame of the screen with Sean Connery in the early Bond movies. Instead, the producers had two spare DB5s outfitted with nearly-working versions of all the Q-quality gadgets Bond deployed, then used the car for promotions. Of the two cars that actually appeared on-screen, the one with gadgets intact was later stolen from an airport in Florida in 1997 and hasn't been seen since.

The DB5 above sold to a Ohio businessman in 2010 for $4.6 million, so the asking price of $4.67 million from British broker RS Williams sounds almost reasonable given the inflation in historic cars. Just don't expect the ejector seat to work on the first few tries.
