I feel confident predicting that no vehicle will ever match the 65-year production run of the original Volkswagen Beetle, which was launched in 1938 and ended on this date in 2003 at a factory in Mexico, where VW was still building them for taxis. That last Bug was number 21,529,464 -- not including those built by a certain goose-stepping German regime. After World War II, the plans and rights to build the Beetle was offered to Allied countries as a war reparation, but none wanted it. By the time production ended, the Bug had found a welcome home around the world, with millions of mechanics known for tricks like the 10-second belt change below.
