The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque has been a smash success for the Jaguar-Land Rover group, and this shot shows what's long been rumored to be in the works as a sequel: a convertible Evoque concept that will roll onstage at the Geneva Motor Show next month and in New York in April. But it's not a done deal just yet.
Shown in London this morning, the topless Evoque adds 165 lbs. to the standard version, but otherwise has few changes. That's one of the boxes still left unchecked before production; a road version would need some stiffening in the chassis to compensate for the loss of a hard roof, but that's no moon shot. The question seems to be one of resources at Jaguar-Land Rover, a subsidiary of India's Tata Motors which has a lot of engineering work on its plate and nowhere near the staff of a global automaker. (Land Rover also didn't show what the top looked like when raised on the Evoque).
That said, it's easy to imagine how this car would do well in the United States, although we'd still make fun of the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet, because...well, just because.
