- not so smooth shifting at low speeds
I purchased a new 2005 325i standard model. It has a manual transmission. You have to have a manual transmission on a 3 series. Anyone who does not is missing the true ultimate driving experience. Most people do not realize the 3 series was not meant to be a luxury car. You want luxury, you better buy a 5 series. If you cannot afford it and then you should not be looking for luxury at $30,000. For me money was not an issue when I purchased my 3 series as I owned a 5 series prior to it; however when I purchased my 3 series I opted to go with the most basic model. I do not even have power seats on mine. I had 8 way adjustable power seats with 3 memory settings on the 5 series which I never changed from the initial position. I was more interested in what was under the hood. Afterall I am only 27 years old and a 5 series was like a grandma car compared to the 3 series.
The 325 handles very well in the city and highway. Driving at 100 miles per hour feels like 70-80. The suspension is rigid and solid over bumps, and gives you a sense like the car is hugging the road around corners. Most people slow down when they drive around cornes, I step on the gas. This accelerates pretty good using a manual 5 speed transmission, and if you apply downshifting you can getter breaking distance than any automatic model.
I have never met anyone who regrets bying a BMW. And if anyone needs another reason to buy one, a survey condacted by a German car magazine concluded that BMW drivers get laid more than any other car driver
