2007 BMW 3 Series Sedan User Reviews
- $11,846 - $12,999

- Plenty of power- great brakes- decent front seat room
- Poor mpg- complicated iDrive- noise/vibration/harshness- some problems
I took over the lease of my brother who was low on money. After 6 months I have compiled a list of good and bad things about this car.
-Power. This is a great engine for a turbo. Minimal turbo lag and torque aplenty send this car to M3 speeds. More than enough power to make passing a breeze even with 4 people in the car.
-Trans. I enjoy the 6 spd manual trans throughly. It is a joy to hold and control and slips into gears like a Porshe Boxter.
-Brakes. Simply Super. Great feel and control and has never faded even from 100mph+ highway speeds to EZ pass toll booths.
-Steering. Excellent feedback and control. A little heavy in slow going but excellent on highway. Nice size steering wheel feels good in hands.
-Space. For a small car its decent inside. The seats hold you in position and the power operation makes it easy to adjust. Back seat is good for 2 medium people, tight for 6 footers.
-MPG. Average about 15-16 mpg combined city and highway. For a 6 cylinder it drinks gas like an 8.
-iDrive. The name is misleading. Its very complicated and I compare it to a HAL9000. Just try changing the fader during rush hour. I ask Why, iDrive, why?
-NVH. Strange noises/vibrations have been noted on a daily basis. While driving above 60mph in 5th gear only, a long deep sound penetrates the cabin which is something unexpected in a $44k car.
-Suspension. Its a curse and a blessing. The tightness offers race car driving but beats you up which may be a cause of the squeeks and noises.
-Problems/naggels. Various little things have gone bad like the dash lights, wiper motor, power window motor, memory seats, navigation. Once towed from house due to faulty fuel system electronics. Dealer added oil three times between change. Check Engine light comes and goes on and off so dealer said program needed update. Trunk seals loose. Sunroof leaked and after close inspection can see it does not close tight as if the window was misalinged. BMWNA contacted about problems but no satisfying response yet.
So when I take into consideration the cost and the various problems I ask was it worth it for the extra performance? No. I'll shop around after this lease is up.
