Purchased As New
I frequently read reviews but rarely post my own comments. I finally got sick of reading disparaging remarks about the new 3 series from people who throw around terms like steering feel or turbo lag but don't know what they are talking about (and worst of all, most of them drive automatics). I purchased a month ago 328i 6MT Sport Line; prior to that I did test drive the other versions (luxury and modern) in automatic format and wasn't impressed at all; in fact, I thought what others are saying about a lacking steering feel was true. However, when I drove the Sport Line Manual it was a night and day and I couldn't wait to put my order in. Its steering is light but perfectly weighted and with a great feedback. The manual is a joy to operate, and the overall craftsmanship is impeccable. In less than 5 weeks I already have 2200 miles on the odometer and always keep looking for reasons to drive. My prior car for 7 years was an E46 (again a manual), and on numerous occasions I have test driven or rented the E90 model; I can confidently say that the 328i Sport Line Manual is a significant improvement over all of them, including with respect to the often criticized steering feel. I must caution, however, that my comments apply only to the Sport Line; like I said, I wasn't impressed at all with the Modern and Luxury versions. In theory the steering feel should not be any different for the Sport Line (only the suspension and a few other minor details) but for some reason it does feel significantly better (my car does not have the Variable Sport Steering or the Adaptive Suspension). The engine may not be as smooth as the prior inline-6 but at least for me it's not very noticeable and not a major issue. My minor gripes are about the poor cupholders (some things never change) and the AC which sometimes feels like it's not working when it should be. Overall, I can't think of another car I would rather own, and even an M3 or a Cayman probably don't look as appealing to me right now.
